Hi to my Forum Friends,

In the discussion I began last week titled "America Is A Nation 'WITH' Immigrants - Not A Nation 'OF' Immigrants!" -- my Forum Friend, Reynaldo, tells us, "The Native Americans are indigenous to this country.  So are the Mexicans who lived in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, the Southwestern United states.  They were in that land until it got taken away from them.  But they  are still there, going NOWHERE."

First, Reynaldo, while I want to be Friends and I want us to discuss the merits, or lack of merits, of amnesty for the 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants in America, mostly from Mexico -- your continued attitude of arrogance does not bode well.   For me personally,  this is one of the problems I have with the continued influx of illegal immigrants across the Mexico/America border.

I have lived with and around immigrants most of my life and have enjoyed this relationship.  However, in the last 10 to 20 years, when the predominantly Mexican illegal immigrants began to march in protests and demonstrations, even insulting the American flag, and demanding the "rights" which they do not legally have or deserve -- I have found a strong "send them home" sentiment growing within me.

And, with that, comes a strong desire to see America change the law regarding Anchor Babies.  Too many illegal immigrants sneak into America to have a child.  Because that baby was born in America, even thought the parent are illegal immigrants, the baby is automatically given an American citizenship.  This is wrong!    No baby should be given automatic American citizenship -- unless at least one of the parents is a naturalized citizen or a legal immigrant.

Reynaldo, if someone breaks into my home -- and then begins to demand his/her rights -- the only right they have is to be arrested and taken to jail.  And, when someone breaks into my home country -- and then begins to demand his/her rights -- the only right they have is a bus ride to the nearest border.  And, they should be deported with a "Bill Due" pinned to their lapel telling their home country government that they owe a reimbursement to America for the expense of arresting and deporting this person.

You tell us, "The Native Americans are indigenous to this country.

Actually, that is not true.  The Native Americans and the Mexicans are not indigenous to North America.  The ancestors of the Native Americans migrated through Siberia into the North American continent across what was, many thousands of years ago, the Bering bridge or land mass connecting the two continents.  This land mass disappeared long ago; but, provided the bridge which allowed this continent to be populated.

The Indigenous Peoples Of The Americas

According to the New World migration model, a migration of humans from Eurasia to the Americas took place via Beringia, a land bridge which formerly connected the two continents across what is now the Bering Strait.  The minimum time depth by which this migration had taken place is confirmed at circa 12,000 years ago, with the upper bound (or earliest period) remaining a matter of some unresolved contention.   These early Paleoamericans soon spread throughout the Americas, diversifying into many hundreds of culturally distinct nations and tribes.

There is a fantastic series of books, The People Series, written by W. Michael Gear and Kathleen O'Neal Gear, a couple who are both professional archaeologists and who have spent years writing historical novels about the populating of the American continents,  based upon their work in archaeology.

The People Series is currently a set of sixteen books beginning with "The People Of The Wolf" which tells of the migration from Asia, through Siberia, across the Bering land bridge, and into the North American continent through what is now Alaska.  The series of books tell of the gradual migration of those peoples into all areas of North America and into Central and South America.

I have read the first twelve books in The People Series and in the past few months have begun rereading them.  I am currently just finishing rereading the sixth in the series, "The People Of The Lakes."   When I have reread this set of twelve, I will buy and read the last four books in the series.  I have always had a fascination with Native Americans and find invaluable information in this series of historical novels.

Thousands of years ago, at the end of the Ice Age, small hunting bands crossed the fragile land bridge linking Europe and Asia to the Americas, and discovered a lush and fertile land untouched by humankind.  Over the centuries that followed, the descendants of these first Americans spread across the face of the continent, adapting to its varied climates and conditions.  People of the Wolf is the first gripping novel in a magnificent multi-volume saga that traces the epic history of these pioneer peoples.

And, you will find that the Mexicans are predominantly a mixture of the descendants of those Native Americans who migrated into these continents and the Spanish and Europeans who came and conquered the Central and South American continents hundreds of  years ago.

Mexican People

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_people

Cultural diffusion and intermixing among the Amerindian populations with the European created the modern Mexican identity which is a mixture of regional indigenous and European cultures that evolved into a national culture during the Spanish Colonial period.  This new identity was defined as "Mexican" shortly after the Mexican War of Independence

So, who is truly indigenous to North America?   No one.  No group had its beginning in the Americas.  So, in that sense, no one is truly indigenous to the Americas.   However, I will admit that the Native Americans were here and had established great civilizations, in North America, Central America, and South America -- long before my ancestors came, polluted, and virtually destroyed them.

Yet, that has no bearing on the fact that the immigrants who came into America illegally -- DID break the laws of America and ARE still in America illegally.  Nor does it alter the fact that those 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants are an economic burden upon the American people and our government.  Then, to see them picketing, protesting, and defaming the American flag, a flag which many young Americans have died defending -- makes if very difficult to extend a warm and welcoming attitude toward them, even in view of the corruption and gangster terrorism in control of their home country, Mexico.

Once again, let me emphasize that ALL immigrants who enter America legally are welcomed with open arms.  They make up a vital part of this nation.  And, personally, I enjoy being with them and sharing their cultures.  About 15 years ago, I worked for a computer company in Orange County, California, which was founded and owned by a Pakistani man.  The over 300 employees were from virtually all Middle Eastern and Asian countries.

Walking around the company, hearing all the many languages and dialects, made me feel like I was in the United Nations building.  I enjoyed this very much -- and got a big kick out a Chinese man who mistook me and another tall, blonde Caucasian man.  I jokingly asked him, "What's wrong -- you can't tell one Caucasian from another?"   And, it was most likely true; just as many Caucasians cannot tell one Asian people group from another.

All this said, no -- I am not racist, I am not prejudiced, I am only an American citizen speaking up to protect my country from being overrun by illegal immigrants and from the politicians who would give them amnesty just to buy their votes.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

I like this Bill, i like this a lot. U might have more knowledge than me cause you are older, and im still in high school. But you truly dont know how bad illegals get treated. From racism to no respect. They are still humans, all men were created equally. I, who was born in CA by illegal immigrants, know the intentions of these immigrants cause they are my family. And for the past 5 or something years all ive seen in the t.v. news is when illegal mexican protesters are marching all they want IS JUST being able to work and live here, just like any other person in America. They are not any different from legal White and Black people. And when they protest they also have an American Flag with them too because they love this country. America is a unique country, because  no other country in the world has a more diverse population. That's why people want to come.

Hi Reynaldo,

Actually, I do know the prejudice and racism against many Mexicans, both legal and illegal, in parts of the American Southwest.  In 1957, I was stationed at Bergstrom AFB in Austin, Texas.  When I went there, I took my Mexican wife and Mexican children with me -- and, believe me, I felt the prejudice, I felt the racism -- against all Hispanics in a very personal way.

But, that has nothing to do with the problem the illegal immigrants are causing today -- because they are DEMANDING their rights.  Reynaldo, when a person from another country is breaking the laws in America (and all illegal immigrants are breaking the law the moment they enter America illegally) -- the only RIGHTS they have is a bus ride to the border.

It is this arrogance that is causing so many Americans to fight against Amnesty.  As much as I have always loved the Mexican and other Hispanic people -- this arrogance, the demonstrating and protest marches demanding rights they do not have -- has made a strong anti-amnesty supporter of me.    You do not win people over by spitting in their faces.  And, that is what all this protesting, marching, and loudly declaring that you are going to take the Southwest back and make it part of Mexico again -- is doing.  It is turning people strongly against ALL illegal immigrants.   You are cutting off your noses to spite your faces.

You say, "They are not any different from legal White and Black people."

They ARE different.  The illegal immigrants are breaking the laws of America -- because they are here illegally.  The Whites and Blacks you mention are legal, they are not breaking the immigration laws of America.   So, in this case, we are talking apples and oranges.

You say the marchers carry and respect the American flag.  Then, why did I see a photo and an article, just a few months ago, about Hispanic marchers putting an American flag on the ground and people walking and dancing on it?

Reynaldo, if the illegal immigrants respect the American flag -- please explain the photo taken at a California high school just a couple of years ago -- with the American flag hanging upside down -- and the Mexican flag flying above it.  The photo is shown below.   I added the captions to the photo; but, the photo is from the news article telling about this immigrant protest.

I really would like your thoughts on this incident.

Reynaldo, if you and I met in person; we would most likely be very good friends.  However, as long as this "anti-American, we're going to recapture the Southwest" attitude -- and the DEMAND marches and protest continue -- you and I will always disagree on amnesty.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill
