THe only other I know of would be SHOALANDA...but not sure that is supposed to be news...Shoalanda is more like a cheap gossip rag with very little credibility. Just someone unwilling to identify themselves while he/she trashes any they chose.

Since I'm one that works with "Shoalanda" maybe you can tell me what's gossip. We have political endorsements, news about local businesses, and reports on local crime.

If you find something that's wrong, e-mail us. We'll correct it.

Of course you work with Shoalanda. You mean "Since I'm Shoalanda and Firenze and Fox/now E.T. and...", didn't you?

What's this with the "e-mail US" stuff? Give us a break.

I changed my name from Fox because Shoalanda did a column on those who work on the blog. She used my real initials which are E.T.

You wouldn't know who registered under my full name some weeks ago would you?

The last time I went to that link, it said comments will no longer
be taken because there had been too many negative ones.
So why bother, I just won't go there anymore.

Let me help with definitions:

Blog:
quote:
(web log) a shared on-line journal where people can post diary entries about their personal experiences and hobbies.

News Site:
quote:
A news site is a web site with the primary purpose of reporting news. There are two main types of news site: general news and subject-specific.

The first set of news sites emerged when traditional news providers moved their content online. One of the earliest was a Raleigh, North Carolina newspaper, The News & Observer, which launched its companion site NandO.net in 1994. Others soon followed, including The New York Times, MSNBC.com, CNN, and BBC News.

I think the definition blog really doesn't require much. It is up to you whether you read it or ignore it. It is similar to a newspaper except there is no expectation of credibility.
You beat me to it,... i was going to post what a blog meant for SCchapmans but i doubt he/she reads it. They are too concerned with the identity of Shoalanda. Stalker comes to mind as I'm sure this thread will reveal such. They got cut off at the Shoalanda site, and will continue here, with this thread.
The Shoalanda site is a blog, a diary of sorts. It has apparently touched some nerves in its blogging. Kind of like the old saying, a bit dog barks.... they wrote, and it barked.
As far as shoals insider goes,... they continue to report, often times quicker than the local newspaper.. and with accuracy.

NKOTB- New Kid on the block. Not to worry Mork I agree with you that it doesn't really matter WHO is behind the Insider. They do report more info and/or quicker than the TD. I've yet to see anything that was not a true story on SI.

You have to wonder sometimes about the 'quicker'
like are they making their own news
just a thought

I know the guy who started SI. I've also been told by my sister (she works for a local attorney) that she see's him all the time at the courthouse getting the public records. I (personally) do not think he is making any of this up. The site is fairly well-known and I don't think anyone would just put people's names up and claim they committed a crime if they, in fact, did not.

I take it no one on here knows who/what is behind Shoals Insider.

I know who it is but it is up to that person to out him or herself. People are evading the question out of respect.

Well said jimbo! If you doubt what you are reading on SI, then why are you reading it? Unless your just so nosey you can't help yourself. I am a member of SI, although I have never posted. I go there when I just want the up to the minute TRUTH! Because I know what is being published is not only TRUE...But up to the minute! Keep up the good work SI!!

This is one of the most idiotic posts I've seen in a while. You must not have thought that one through. THIS IS A FORUM WHERE YOU ARE EXPECTED TO USE A USERNAME AND AVOID PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION. It is not a source of news or facts, it is for opinions and discussion.

To imply that there is a consistent standard between posting opinions in a forum and reporting the news is so mind-blowingly stupid that I'm struggling to get though this response...
Henhouse Prowler, it is evident you don't know how to find information. Why are you posting this question on the Times Daily forum, when it is in clear violations of the rules here?
Why don't you go directly to the source and ask them at the Shoals insider? I don't care who they are, so why do you have to make it such a public issue and just go to them in a PM and ask them directly.

The truth to the matter is that you are only interested in stirring up some poo about something that does not matter one bit!

TamaraKnight, Thank you! I had tried using the wonderful search tool provided by TD before I started this thread to see if it was already out there, but as usual it didn't work. Maybe b/c I was searching for two separate words and that thread has it as one word. Who knows, that search tool seldom works at all anyway.

The user who represented the SI on that thread is "larrypbaker". It also appears that "traderconnect" is affiliated.

Shortly after starting this thread yesterday I used the vague "Contact Us" page to submit the following message to get the SI staff/person involved in the discussion:

4:52pm - "I would encourage you to go to this forum and openly enter the discussion. Some fans of your site are discussing it here: Link"

I got the following response back later in the evening from a man named Larry (his response got lost in the multitude of TD Forum emails that were flying in):

6:07pm - "Hey, thanks for the heads up. I can't get the link to work in the e-mail. I'll try to look for it. - Larry"

Looks like he still hasn't made his way into the thread, so I'll send him another message. I would think he'll appreciate our concerns and accept our appreciation for the work he is doing.

If you knew as much as you assume to know, you'd be dangerous (in a good way).

I'm sure that Firenze used your "real initials" that are also hers. No question.

Your desperation to know who is who on here is disturbing and wildly humorous that you've got it all wrong.
I do not read the Shoalanda site but I went to check it out and look what I found:

Link

It's ironic that the folks behind that site were just having this same kind of discussion a few days ago. From looking at the site, It's not really my style so I don't think I'll be following them closely, but I appreciate what they are doing (same for Osborne Ink - who is my polar opposite on political and social views but I respect his work and appreciate his transparency - and Shoals Insider).

I'd really like to see a serious competitor rise up to the TD and give a solid second option for the area, but I'm sure that'll happen right after we get competition in the cable TV market...
Greetings, I'm Larry. I write for the Shoals Insider. Sorry it took so long for me to get here. I was looking in another place.

To answer your questions, four of us write for SI. Yours truly, Karl Owens, and Wade Sockwell write the bulk of the stories. Veronica Lopez, when she has time, writes from her home in Russellville. When it is just a short blurb on the site or something off of a newswire, we don't put our name on the article. We just put staff reports. It is not anonymous. I think that causes a lot of confusion.

I appreciate all of the input. Thank you so much. We are far from perfect, but, we do provide news to people in the Shoals that they would not get otherwise.

We do need a privacy policy. It will be up when we go to a new content management system. We have almost outgrown the one we are on.

We have a couple of people that sell ads too.

If you have any other questions or story suggestions, please feel free to e-mail us at shoalsinsider@bellsouth.net

Thanks again,

Larry Baker

Hey Larry! Thanks for coming by and offering that info. Your site is quoted and linked so much on this forum that I thought this would be a great place to find out who's behind SI and get all that out in the open. Unfortunately some of the discussion lost focus along the way (sorry).

I appreciate what you are doing. I would encourage you to disclose ownership or possible conflicts of interest as transparently as possible on your site so that your reporting doesn't expose you to possible legal issues and so that readers can view the information with a high degree of credibility. As you know the days of people assuming a lack of bias in reporting are over, as the mainstream media has descended so far from the days where they were a "trusted source". Thanks for considering this feedback.

The quicker is easy. The TD has to focus on their paper version, and the timing of that, along with whatever checking for accuracy they do.

The Insider can post it up, with minimal research, and whatever level of accuracy they are comfortable with. They also don't have to provide a "story", just whatever information they have, even if it is just a headline.
The scary part is people think they are getting the real story that the TD will not print. Information on SI and Shoalanda is incorrect and it is not even top secret information. For example, they both are posting information about the selection of names to submit to the governor for a replacement for Mike Suttle as Judge. They both report the wrong number of applicants and wrong names.

Good to know there are ''''real'''' news reports from the Shoals area... TD dont print half of what SI prints...... that is really bad....
