According to my doc, the problem is two prong. Please don't bash me, I am only repeating what he said and I am one of those terrible uninformed parents who got my child vaccinated.
First, many parents are electing to not vaccinate.

And the majority of the problem is when Americans think it's the right thing to do by listening to ex playboy bunnies and comedians, instead of the actual doctors and scientists that understand how vaccines truly work. With propaganda like http://www.generationrescue.org. These people should be put on trial for every infant death caused b this disease. They aren't just wrong, they are dead wrong.
More lives are saved by such vaccines than are lost. In order to maintain herd immunity, the next time you need a tetanus shot, ask for the DPT if available. You should have a booster every five to ten years. If you contract pertussis, it will probably make you only mildly ill. If you infect an infant, it could easily die.
