Haha, sorry. That song popped into my head as I was creating this topic.

But anyway, who's got the inside info on the best milkshakes around? I'm not talking about some "frozen non-dairy dessert" like Wendy's Frosty. I'm talking about a place that makes 'em up right! In Tampa, there was a place that made the best milkshakes EVER - fresh fruit blended in with the ice cream and milk... their peach shakes were amazing, as were the pineapple ones. Someone, anyone, please tell me there's a place like that in the area...
You don't love someone for their looks, or their clothes, or for their fancy car, but because they sing a song only you can hear.

No such place around here that I know of, but if you want a chocolate milkshake, the "Harvey" at the Palace Drug Store in tuscumbia is deservedly praised for its quality and authenticity (REAL ice cream with plenty of butter fat). It is kinda pricey but worth it!

I make my own shakes, using good quality premium ice cream and syrups that are commonly available from local markets. That way, I control the thickness, size and ingredient mix MY WAY instead of risking disappointment with local commercial products, most of which are mediocre at best. Surprisingly, the Wendy's VANILLA "Frostee" is very good, at least in my opinion--better by far than the original chocolate version, which is and has always been a dairy disaster.

The Water Wheel IS the best place that I know of. I have never had a bad experience there.

When my grandfathers TG&Y closed many years ago in downtown Florence, he purchased one of the antique milkshake makers from them (they had an ice cream & sandwich bar inside the store), so I love to make many concoctions!
Although banana & peanut butter, are our favs! Big Grin

I'll jusy have vanilla when I come home ok ? lol Wink Razzer

Steak & Shake. But one of the best I've ever had was in a little town called Shelbyville, IN at a place called The Cow Palace. Home made and they even brought to you what wouldn't fit in the glass in it's metal mixing cup.

Had a shake at Steak & Shake in Decatur. Would rate it a 6 or 7 at most. I agree Jack's is best most of time.
I used to love malts. When I was in school I had a job at a little ice cream shop. It was great. The owner was compulsive about cleanliness. We took everything down at night and cleaned thoroughly. Malt was a problem though. There was no way to keep bugs out of the malt. He tried everything. He would make us sift the malt nightly to make sure there were no bugs. That was the last malt I ever had! I still love milk shakes.
Yuck! Hate malt chocolate & while I'm on the subject, I hate dark chocolate. Give me milk chocolate or fah-get about it.

It's really disappointing when you think you are biting into something yummy & it's malt chocolate. Razzer This happens often when my little nieces, nephews & young cousins are sharing Easter, Halloween or Christmas candy with me.

I never liked Ovaltine either, which my mom tried to convince me to ruin a perfectly good glass of milk with...haha.

Although I'm sure you're quite the expert on what the men in your life enjoy, I do very much like a good milkshake. Thanks for your suggestion, though.

Aw, c'mon, Ed, you know "real men" don't go for those sissy boy shakes! Or maybe he's had one too many "malt liquors'.

Ummm, hate to bust your bubble, Billy, but I don't think that picture on Ed@Bama's post is actually what he looks like.

Well, I'm only a little less furry, but I'm a whole lot less cute...

Ed have you tried a malt yet?

As best as I can tell, I haven't been anywhere that sells em... unless Sonic does. But I was on a mission to try the pineapple and the banana shakes, as those are my two favorite - so I didn't even check to see if malts are on the menu.

So, to answer in a much shorter form, no. Smiler

Any suggestions on where I should go to try one?

I'm embarrassed to say that the only one I've had it the chocolate one at McDonald's. It is great with a regular hamburger!

If you're coming from Florence, go across the Patton Island Bridge, then look for the Water Wheel on the right almost immediately after you pass Avalon Avenue. If you're coming from somewhere else, yer on yer own. Smiler
