Ron Paul isn't perfect, but he is clearly head and shoulders above the rest of the candidates. It is no secret he is up against the most powerful people in the world. He simply wants to get back to the Constitution form of government our founding fathers intended. His idea of America is smaller government, common sense policies, and here is the deal breaker - accountability and responsibility.

Weaning from the big government/state teat is painful, especially for those who believe they can't take care of themselves. The higher level corruption know that this is first step in derailing their bureaucratic gravy train. The free flow of money from unjust taxation, borrowing and printing will cease. Bloat and waste will stop.

Of course people will fight it, they have been told all of their lives that they need big government to take care of them through industrial and personal welfare. It takes a steel set to stand up to decades of political corruption and say "no more.""

On a personal level, people are scared of Dr. Paul for two reasons:

1. Ignorance - meaning they just don't know any better or they have been misinformed. (We are on a path that is clearly unsustainable, and merely rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Anyone who has paid attention to world history and knows about empires and fiat currency and still denies it, or doesn't want to do the right thing by correcting it falls into the category below.)

2. Stupidity - actually knowing better and still refusing to do what is right. (And this is the much smaller demographic.)
mrbragd,

I support bringing the war in Iraq to a successful conclusion.

I have many problems with the way the war was fought and the one-year occupation thereafter.

With the latest book on Saddam's last days, it does appear he tried to keep up an illusion of WMD to keep Iran at bay, even his top generals thought he still possessed them. And, he planned to pursue nukes in the future.

If we had perfect knowledge of events, I would have preferred a quick action to unseat him, his sons, the bloodiest of the Ba'athist generals and then get out.

But, you play with the hand that's dealt.

The ardent supporters of Rep. Ron Paul, the iconoclastic Texas libertarian whose campaign for the presidency is threatening to upend the battle for the Republican nomination, got word yesterday of a new source of outrage and motivation: reports of a federal raid on a company that was selling thousands of coins marked with the craggy visage of their hero.
Federal agents on Thursday raided the Evansville, Ind., headquarters of the National Organization for the Repeal of the Federal Reserve Act and Internal Revenue Code (Norfed), an organization of "sound money" advocates that for the past decade has been selling a private currency it calls "Liberty Dollars." The company says it has put into circulation more than $20 million in Liberty Dollars, coins and paper certificates it contends are backed by silver and gold stored in Idaho, are far more reliable than a U.S. dollar and are accepted for use by a nationwide underground economy.

Interventor,

I see your point but do not agree. There cannot be a successful conclusion. There is no winning or losing. We have to leave. Now. Everyday we are losing life's. Americans and Iraqis. We cannot install a so called democracy. Period. I wish we could all agree and get over this "winning" crap and do what we should be doing.

Also, we should have seen that the evidence was questionable. I knew it. My wife knew it. Most of my friends knew it. My family knew it. The UN knew it. The President of France knew it. Large swaths of population in Europe knew it. Why didn't more people in the US know it? Why didn't Congress know it?

People in the US didn't question it because they were hurting and angry and wanted to lash out, not because the evidence supported the allegations. The evidence used circular logic, for crying out loud. "We know that this truck carries chemical weapons because it travels to this chemical weapons facility. We know that this is a chemical weapons facility because this chemical weapons truck goes to it." It was nonsense.

I don't want a President who fails to recognize circular logic and goes along with a "show of force" against a country based on circular logic.

Good points, Miami. I agree.

Under a section headlined "Terrorist Update," the following sentence ran, "If you have ever been robbed by a black teenaged male, you know how unbelievably fleet-footed they can be."

I don't particularly care to have what appears to be a racist as president....do you?

I had missed this and used google to see what I could find:

"Paul's Democratic opponent in the fall election, trial lawyer Charles "Lefty" Morris, lost in a close margin, despite assistance from the AFL-CIO. Paul's large contributor base outraised Morris two-to-one, giving the third-highest amount of individual contributions received by any House member (behind Gingrich and Bob Dornan).[52] It became the third time Paul had been elected to Congress as a non-incumbent.[10]

Morris ran numerous attacks, including publicizing issues of the Ron Paul Survival Report (published by Paul since 1985) that included derogatory comments concerning race and other politicians.[53][54] Alluding to a 1992 study finding that "of black men in Washington ... about 85 percent are arrested at some point in their lives",[55][56] the newsletter proposed assuming that "95% of the black males in Washington DC are semi-criminal or entirely criminal", and stated that "the criminals who terrorize our cities ... largely are" young black males, who commit crimes "all out of proportion to their numbers".[57][58]

In 2001, Paul took "moral responsibility" for the comments printed in his newsletter under his name, telling Texas Monthly magazine that the comments were written by a ghostwriter and did not represent his views. He said newsletter remarks referring to U.S. Representative Barbara Jordan (calling her a "fraud" and a "half-educated victimologist") were "the saddest thing, because Barbara and I served together and actually she was a delightful lady."[59] The magazine defended Paul's decision to protect the writer's confidence in 1996, concluding, "In four terms as a U.S. congressman and one presidential race, Paul had never uttered anything remotely like this."[34] In 2007, with the quotes resurfacing, the New York Times Magazine concurred that Paul denied the allegations "quite believably, since the style diverges widely from his own."

Link.

I've been following Dr. Paul for a long time and this was news to me. Admittedly I don't know all of the details but this seems way out of character for him. Of course the HC says he allegedly quoted a study (see link) and that it was written by a ghostwriter.
Why Ron Paul Is Right About Terrorism: A Letter to the GOP Base

"Policy toward Iraq is ... not designed to protect U.S. national security. It is instead a threat to our security because it may lead to war and loss of American lives, increase terrorism and certainly an additional expense for the U.S. taxpayer. The hyped rhetoric coming from Washington which describes Hussein as the only evil monster with which we must deal in the world is a poor substitute for wise counsel. "

~ Rep. Ron Paul, Letter to President Bill Clinton, November 19, 1997
--------------------------------------------
"If we don't stop extending our troops all around the world in nation-building missions, then we're going to have a serious problem coming down the road."

~ Gov. George W. Bush, Presidential debate with Al Gore, October 3, 2000
----------------------------------------
From the article:

"Many conservatives have said that they agree with Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul on just about everything, but they just can't see things his way when it comes to dealing with the Middle East. Paul's views – correctly or incorrectly perceived – could well be a deal breaker for some in the base of the Republican party who look for strong presidential leadership to protect us from foreign threats. This open letter is an attempt to persuade you that Paul has been, and continues to be, right about the terrorist threat and what should be done about it."

This is definitely worth the read.

You know it would be funny if it weren't so tragic. Sacrificing Americans for personal or political gain is wrong. This is a clear example of our current political system and what bothers me is that you can show a person video evidence of Bush, Clinton, etc. lying through their teeth and they will ignore it and listen to Rush Limbaugh or Randy Rhodes spout BS cover, and still vote for these guys.

With all due respect to anyone reading this: How d@mn dumb/ignorant/stupid does one have to be to buy into their charade? Their fear and lack of intelligence have been leveraged against them....

<ok, rant off, I gotta get some work done>
I get excited when I hear news like this....

Ron Paul raises $6M in 24-hours

Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, raised an astounding $6 million and change Sunday, his campaign said, almost certainly guaranteeing he'll outraise his rivals for the Republican nomination in the fourth quarter and likely will be able to fund a presence in many of the states that vote Feb. 5.

Yes, the reasons why Faux News did this is the same reason the corporate media has excluded Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich from the Democratic debates.

It is to put a muzzle on our democracy. Anyone who speaks plainly (not in politician doublespeak) is quickly ushered offstage and not allowed to play the game. I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so.

This is another travesty of democracy! All of the other candidates have tacitly agreed to go along with the corporate/military/industrial folks who run this country.

Also, his reasonable stand on Israel, as stated below, probably has a LOT to do with why the kingmakers do not want you to hear the views of Ron Paul and others who advocate objective fair policies towards the country that receives the most foreign aid, by far, from the United States:

"Ron Paul favors the elimination of foreign aid to Israel. Many Jews, even those who favor free enterprise, individual rights and peace, thus oppose the most libertarian candidate ever to run for the Republican nomination for president. This enmity goes so far as to account for his being barred from the Republican Jewish Coalition’s candidates' forum. This is no doubt that this action was taken out of fear that if Congressman Paul’s policies are put into effect, they will be harmful to Israel.

At first blush, this seems reasonable enough. The U.S. gives lots of money to the Israeli government for use by its military, and if this were totally eliminated, it is not unwarranted to think that this country would thereby be weakened." (end quote)

Faux News and the other fake media outlets will only allow candidates to participate in our democratic process if they first promise to "play ball" with all of the powers that be.

It is very obvious that the media's new darling is Mike Huckabee, so you can rest assured that he has already signed his pact with the devil. More for the rich, nothing for everyone else.

Oh, but Huckleberry looks like such a harmless grandfatherly-type figure. My, how easily so many are deceived by "appearances" and touching little sound bites about how Mr. Huckabee will keep us safe and not raise our taxes..... The man is clearly another Bush in sheeps' clothing. The media and the other kingmakers are clearly trying to "package" Huckabee as a true advocate of the people. Don't be deceived, because if he WERE, you can bet your bottom dollar that he too would be excluded from the debates.

WHOA, NELLIE! This proves the nutty crackpottitude of the Paulite mentality! You just do NOT go about in this nation to mint your own coinage. End of matter. Nutty crackpottitude proven beyond a reasonable doubt!
Ron Paul finished 5th and beat Giuliani. That says a lot when you compare how much press Giuliani has had compared to Paul.

I predict Ron Paul will have a good showing in NH, but I don't think he'll win there. As long as he can keep competing, I think he'll out last his opponents. His increasing finances and growing grass roots campaign shows that he's gaining supporters every day despite being dismissed by the main stream media.
I am not afraid of Ron Paul at all. Who is he anyway??? No one seems to know anything about him except that he isn't Hillary, Bush or Obama. I do not see anything about him that tells me I should vote for him, seems very inexperienced to run our country. I plan to vote for Fred Thompson. Be nice if people here would vote for someone who might do something for THIS area for a change.
Congressman Ron Paul is the leading advocate for freedom in our nation’s capital. As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Paul tirelessly works for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies. He is known among his congressional colleagues and his constituents for his consistent voting record. Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the “one exception to the Gang of 535” on Capitol Hill.

Ron Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s. He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County. As a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies. He and Carol, who reside in Lake Jackson, Texas, are the proud parents of five children and have 17 grandchildren.

While serving in Congress during the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dr. Paul’s limited-government ideals were not popular in Washington. In 1976, he was one of only four Republican congressmen to endorse Ronald Reagan for president.

During that time, Congressman Paul served on the House Banking committee, where he was a strong advocate for sound monetary policy and an outspoken critic of the Federal Reserve’s inflationary measures. He was an unwavering advocate of pro-life and pro-family values. Dr. Paul consistently voted to lower or abolish federal taxes, spending and regulation, and used his House seat to actively promote the return of government to its proper constitutional levels. In 1984, he voluntarily relinquished his House seat and returned to his medical practice.

Dr. Paul returned to Congress in 1997 to represent the 14th congressional district of Texas. He presently serves on the House Committee on Financial Services and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. He continues to advocate a dramatic reduction in the size of the federal government and a return to constitutional principles.

Congressman Paul’s consistent voting record prompted one of his congressional colleagues to say, “Ron Paul personifies the Founding Fathers’ ideal of the citizen-statesman. He makes it clear that his principles will never be compromised, and they never are.” Another colleague observed, “There are few people in public life who, through thick and thin, rain or shine, stick to their principles. Ron Paul is one of those few.”

As I predicted last month, the only consistently antiwar candidate on the Republican side of the aisle is breaking through – but in a spectacular manner that I certainly did not foresee. Suddenly, Paul is everywhere, from the Sunday morning talk shows to the length and breadth of the blogosphere. His amazing $4.2 million-in-one-day fundraising feat has entered the annals of presidential politics as the long-promised fulfillment of Internet-based political fundraising. And the myth that it's all online and not translatable into real people is belied by his recent 5,000-strong Philadelphia rally and similar events in Iowa and elsewhere. Paul has become the equivalent of a rock star among the young, and his appeal goes way beyond the usual libertarian crowd: liberals and conservatives, all races and cultural types, from home-schooling Christians to San Francisco pagans and everything in between. On the Internet, and in the streets, the Ron Paul Revolution, as his followers have dubbed their movement, is taking off.

Yeah, he tore them up in IA, NH and WY. If you are going to try and spin something, take a lesson from Billary, and at least make it sound plausible.

Any fool to vote republican this time around after what Bush and the republicans have done to this country would be a bigger fool.

The rich got the tax breaks - please name one. Big oil got rich off of us by high gas prices. I though they were looking for cheap oil. And Big Oil is owned by 10's of thousands of shareholders. My grandma is a greedy rat-bastard!!
I'm going to be the one to say that he will not get to the White House. I'm a strong Ron Paul supporter. I think most people that research him and what he stands for would feel the same. It's people that sit on there butts and get ALL there information from main stream media and the debates. Give me a break.

But, the truth be told that most Americans are just to stupid for Ron Paul. They look for a nice face and someone that can just spit out promising sounding hopes and dreams. When you listen to Ron it takes time to think. He makes you think. America listen to him and do not understand so they take there 10 second attention span and take to another person voting that sounds and looks good.

It's just the true.

I'm not saying Ron Paul is not worth fighting for. I think all this is not about Ron but it's about a revolution that will hopefully take hold of our country and maybe might save us one day if things get much worse.
Ron Paul comes in second in Nevada. But if you look at the exit polls you get the highest majority of voter turnout 60+ year of age. And he also scored best in Independents even over Romney. Thonmpson is likely going to drop out tonight and hunter already has. I see alot of votes going to paul from these to drop outs. Guilliani is not showing anything... is votes will probably go to mccain. Huckabee will liely be the next to drop because he will not get the votes in Fla. So this will take your evangellecal and good old country boys to really take a look at Paul.
Google Ron Paul, youtube Ron Paul, and select the Google news options to find more coverage on Ron Paul. Mainstream media will continue to block him out. So any Paul supporters out there we got until feb 5th to precinct canvas. Young people get out there and educate the older traditional 60+ aged republicans that probably do not no much about Paul. These are the guys that are turning out to the polls in the most numbers. Remember they are the largest class of republicans hence they were the baby boomers.
