Peter was both priest and pope. The Catholic Church has never made any infallible declaration about whether priests can marry. There current practice (not dogma) is that priests cannot marry. but we currently have a few married priests who came from the Anglican tradition and then joined the Catholic Church! So nothing contradictory there. Praised be Jesus forever!

Hi Nathan,

Yes, I am aware that the Vatican has chosen to allow Anglican/Episcopalian pastors to come into the Roman Catholic church in their married state.   BUT, can a Roman Catholic priest today decide he wants to be married -- and stay in the priesthood?  NO!  You and I both know that.  Sounds like a double standard to me.

And, I wonder, since the Roman Catholic church is so desperate to bring in folks from other churches -- do you think they will allow Muslim Imams to also come into the church with their wives?  Why not, if they are allowing other church clergy to bring in their wives?

Can you see how this looks -- when the church has one set of rules for its own clergy -- but, will allow other clergy to "come as you are"?   Desperation time?

So, we are back to the same situation.  Peter was married.  Therefore, Peter could not be a Pope!  And, since Peter was not a Pope -- he could not start a papal succession chain.    Works for me.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Peter was married.  Therefore, Peter could not be a Pope!  And, since Peter was not a Pope -- he could not start a papal succession chain.    Works for me.

Except Jesus gave him the order to build the church and feed the sheep.

Why do you care about Papal succession since you are not Catholic?

Every Christian based religious group picks and chooses what they want to believe in the Bible. If they didn't, then all people of the Christian faith would have no quarrels.

Same with Islam or Judaism, all factions pick and choose the parts they like.

Sprinkle or dunk? Altar call or not? Women not allowed? Music or not? Wednesday, Sunday, Saturday or Thursday? Does any of that even matter?

If all the religions actually practiced what they claim they believe, there would not be any religious conflicts.

If someone helps me without any thought of fame or fortune, isn't that what mankind is actually supposed to do? Do I need to verify if the person is Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, Atheist, Druid, or Buddhist before I say Thank You?

And yet, peter was married and was pope. We know this on the authority of the church, who also, by the authority given it by Jesus, decided what would go in the new testament, and what would not. Papal succession pre-dates the new testament. Peter's authority came from Jesus, and he passed it on. One more proof and reason why the bible is not the sole authority. Praised be Jesus forever!

Nathan, this is important to billie when he says "

"So, we are back to the same situation.  Peter was married.  Therefore, Peter could not be a Pope!  And, since Peter was not a Pope -- he could not start a papal succession chain.    Works for me".

billie needs to prove Jesus a liar or his little stories like the above doesn't

support his lies. billie doesn't care what the Bible says he will twist it.
