Hi to all my Forum Friends,

In a TimesDaily Religion Forum discussion begun by an atheist Friend in December 2010, titled "What's Wrong With Atheist Bus Ads?" -- she comments, "I'd say there is nothing wrong with them, but what's your opinion?"

And, she gives us the Wikipedia link for the article "Atheist Bus Campaign"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atheist_Bus_Campaign

Another atheist Forum Friend responds, "OMG!  I feel so blonde.  LOL, I missed that entirely.  Hilarious!"

To this second atheist Friend, I reply:

"As a Forum Friend who believes strongly that we can debate, and even disagree, without offending one another -- please do not use the name of my Lord and God as your exclamation point.  If you are going to use OMG (which virtually every person knows means 'Oh, my God!') -- please let it be the beginning of a serious prayer.

Otherwise, you are offending the God I worship, and you are offending me and all Christian believers.  I realize you are not a believer; but we are -- and, as a Forum Friend, I ask that you begin your sentence in another way.  I know that you are intelligent and can honor this request."

She tells me, "Bill, I will not have my speech censored due to your belief.  I am sorry that you took offense to it, but it was in no way directed at you or what you believe in.  I will not use it to be purposely offensive, but if the mood hits me and I feel an 'OMG' is appropriate, then you will see it again.  I am intelligent enough to see the difference in someone being offensive for effect and someone just using a term or phrase for emphasizes.  I would hope you are also."

My Friend, I fail to see when the use of a phrase which is considered offensive to many people -- is appropriate.  And, I know that most folks, if they give it a wee bit of thought, can find an alternate phrase to use which is just as effective and not offensive to anyone.

I am not asking to censor your speech.  I AM asking for mutual respect.   Even though you were not purposely trying to offend me and other Christian believers -- taking name of our God, in whom we do believe, in vain -- is offensive to all of us.

And, as I said, I KNOW that you are an intelligent person and can find other exclamations to use in lieu of that.

You tell me, "I am intelligent enough to see the difference in someone being offensive for effect and someone just using a term or phrase for emphasizes.  I would hope you are also."

I realize that you were not purposely trying to be offensive.  And, even among Christian believers, there are many who do not realize that they are offending God when they write OMG in a post, or use the phrase in a conversation.   Many folks, especially young Christians, think they are just using a cute exclamation.

To be honest with you, I was not aware of the many ways we had been taking God's name in vain until about 20 years ago when our senior pastor, Pastor Sam Lacanienta, used a Sunday School class to explain it to us.  I had often heard, and probably been guilty of it myself, the use of words like "Geez" - which is just a shortened form of Jesus -- or "Gosh!" which is just a disguised form of God, i.e., "Oh, my gosh!" -- as exclamation points.

But, since that Sunday, I have been very aware of the different forms of taking God's name in vain.  And, it sincerely does bother me to hear others do it so blatantly, even when it is not done purposely to offend another.

Because at one time I was not aware of the offense -- now, when a person does it, I realize that they, too, may not be aware that what they are saying is offensive to most Christians.  So, as a Christian Friend, I will point it out to that person and let him/her know that I find it offensive.  If that person then continues to do it; I realize they are intentionally trying to offend me.

As I said, even many Christians do not realize what they are doing when they write or say this.  That is why, last September 2010, I posted this on Facebook:

USING "OMG" AND THE "F" WORD ON PUBLIC FORUMS:   In the past few weeks, my heart has been burdened.  I am seeing a proliferation of people, mostly young, but some not so young, whom I know to be Christian and whom I know come from good Christian families -- flagrantly posting two very offensive words/phrases on Facebook.

What are these words that I find so offensive?  First, is the initials "OMG" and the second is the "F" word.

Why are these so offensive to me?  Well, the "F" word is self-explanatory.  So, we will proceed to "OMG," texting shorthand for "Oh, my God!" -- which IS taking God's name in vain.  God takes His name and His glory very serious.  That is why He wrote in the Bible, "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, . . ." (Exodus 20:7).  Just because it is abbreviated makes it no less offensive -- to God and to all Christian believers.

Creating slang versions of His name is the same, i.e., writing, or saying, "Geez" or "Jeezus" -- is just as bad as using "Oh, Jesus!" as an exclamation.

Most of the people I have seen writing or saying this have a relatively good education -- and I am sure, if that person tries just a little, he/she can find a more appropriate word or phrase to use in venting frustration, to highlight a point, or to make an exclamation.

What does surprise me the most -- is that 95% of the people I have seen recently using these offensive words and phrases on public forums -- are female.  No, this is not meant to be a slam against our ladies.  As Sgt. Joe Friday (old Dragnet TV series) would say, "Just the facts, ma'am.  Just the facts!"

When we, as Christian believers, post on public forums such as Facebook -- we are representing all Christian believers; and we are representing our Lord.  We are told in 2 Corinthians 5:20, "Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God."

When I read this Scripture verse, I am reminded of a story my good Friend and mentor, Pastor Sam Lacanienta, told us many years ago.  When Pastor Sam was a young pastor in the Philippines, one Sunday a relative, who also was the Philippine Ambassador to England, came to the worship service.  After the service, Pastor Sam asked him what it meant to be an ambassador for his country.  He told Pastor Sam, "My main job as an ambassador to England -- is to not embarrass my nation while doing my job."

As Christian ambassadors for Christ, when we write on public forums, and even in private discussions -- we should be very aware of not embarrassing our Lord.

For my young Friends, when you post such words on Facebook and other networking channels -- keep in mind that you are representing, first, our Lord -- then, yourself -- and, very importantly, you are representing YOUR FAMILY, your mom, your dad, your siblings -- all your family.

So, please -- I know that you do not purposely want to be offensive.  And, I know you do not want to offend God, nor do you want to embarrass your family or yourself.  Therefore, when you write on Facebook or other networking channels -- write your message as though you are writing it to your mother.  Write messages you would not be ashamed to have your mother, father, and Lord read.   Write messages which will glorify our Lord.

And, to my non-believing Friends, while you may or may not find these words offensive; keep in mind when you post on any Forum or network channel -- that those things ARE offensive to we Christians.  So, as a courtesy to us, please try to find other words or phrases to use.  For that, we thank you.

To my Religion Forum Friend, you can see that it is not just you, nor is it just other Religion Forum Friends, who sometimes make this faux pas.   Many Christians innocently make the same mistake.  This is why I will ask them and will ask all my Religion Forum Friends: Please, if you are going to begin a sentence with the words, "Oh, my God" -- make sure it is followed by a sincere prayer.  Then, we can all be blessed.

So, one might ask, "Bill, why are you resurrecting an old article?  You wrote it in 2010; so, why post it again?"

The reason is simple.  As long as I see Friends, many whom I know are Christian, some even in leadership positions, writing posts on Facebook and other venues using "OMG" as an exclamation point as though they were merely saying, "Check this out!" or "This should get your attention!" -- I will keep posting such articles, over and over again.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Crusty, my Friend,

ARE YOU A YANKEE?   My Friend, "Bless your heart!" is as Southern as cornbread, fried okra, fried green tomatoes, and sweet tea!   Almost as Southern as SEC football!

Sounds like you are one those Yankees who would cheer for Notre Dame, Ohio, or Michigan instead of BAMA.

"Bless your heart" is as Southern as my mom's banana pudding -- and that offends you?   Why, "bless your heart" -- y'all probably even think Obama is a real president.   Boy, where do y'all live?

And, OMG IS insulting to the God whose church you denigrate -- while denying His Son.  That does not make Him happy, not at all.

So, when you keep writing OMG in a silly attempt to insult Bill Gray -- it is really God Himself you are insulting.

Boy, I would not want to stand in your shoes before Him on Judgment Day and explain why I chose to defame His name, in a feeble attempt to win an argument with Bill Gray.

Now, on the other hand, the phrase, "Well, duh!" is an earned reward.  A person has to really work hard to earn that.   But, with your continuous put down of God and all things Christian -- you do qualify.

So, my Friend, bless your heart -- you do really need to have a saving relationship with God and His Son, Jesus Christ.  Why don't you just forget Bill Gray and concentrate on Jesus Christ -- for He has already purchased your free gift of eternal life.  All you have to do is to receive it.

Yet, you would rather argue over what you believe to be wrong in His Written Word.  When you argue with God's Written Word, that only gets you a "Duh!" and eternal hell.

However, if you will stop denying Christ and start truly following Him, that will earn you eternal life and a "Praise the Lord!"

Now, which is better -- a "Duh!" or a "Praise the Lord!"?   You have to decide.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

There you have it, Narcissism 101, folks.

I'll repeat once again, I don't put down God, Jesus, Christians, or the Bible.  I do find your take on all those things to be ridiculous, and will continue to ridicule you.  Since you aren't God, Jesus, the Bible or even a Christian - just a fundamentalist cultist, who doesn't understand the word "mutual" - my ridiculing you ridicules none of the others.

Well, Crusty, my Friend,

I suppose you will be able to explain all your negative comments and slurs about Christians and the Christian faith to Jesus Christ -- when YOU stand before Him at the Great White Throne Judgment.

Of course, you can keep repeating your non-believer's mantra, "There will be no judgment!  There will be no judgment!" -- all you want.  But, those rants will not altar facts.

And, the true facts are what is written in God's Word, the Bible -- all non-believers WILL stand before Christ in a judgment of punishment.  Then, the lake of fire, hell.  For a preview, you might read Revelation 20:11-15.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Mutual respect is a two way street.  You don't like OMG, many of us don't like "duh", and know that your "bless your hearts" are belittling.

Either show some respect from your end, or shut up.

______

Billy ask for mutual respect??? OMG!

Your post is right on but Bill won't get it.......he refuses to even think something he says could be wrong or offensive to others. He is one sick puppy!

Bill, show me one slur about a Christian I have made.  When have I ever said "there will be no judgement"?  More of your Liar for Jesus stuff.  Jesus doesn't need or want your lies.  Enjoy your eternal hot seat.

So, Crusty, my Friend,

Will YOU stand before Jesus Christ at the Great White Throne Judgment -- or at the Bema Seat Judgment?   Which will it be for my dear Friend, Crusty?

And, what will your answers be when Jesus asks you, "Why have you refused to go to church all those years?  Why have you refused to fellowship with My church, my body of believers?  Why have you refused to do as I instructed in the Great Commission I left for you, and be My witness to all the world?"

What will YOU tell Him -- that will be truly valid answers?  Remember, when you DO answer those questions -- you will be looking Him in the eye, face to face.  That will not be anything like throwing stones at Bill Gray on the Religion Forum, under the cover of a phony pseudonym.  Instead, it will be looking our Lord and Savior straight in the eye -- and giving Him an answer that, for once in your life, will have to be true.

My Friend, now is the time, while you are still in your mortal body -- to prepare yourself to stand before Him and answer those questions.  In other words, now is your time to cram for your Final Exam!    Please use this time wisely; for there are no do-overs, no make-up tests.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Actually depending on how you personally interpret the bible, calling someone a fool, even in a low key way is saying they don't know God or any of His laws.  You seem to have no problem doing this, but it's ignoring You're sins.  Who say's it's your job to judge people?  I think you actually need to read the bible some more instead of just believing what your minister says.

Yankees, ND fans, Ohio State and Michigan fans can be added to Gray's list of people who are just plain wrong in their beliefs. God save anyone who thinks differently then gray does. He must have an interesting cast of characters as friends.

Since I already have a relationship with God any question you might think of will have been answered long before I get there.  Instead of spending all my time studying for an exam in an effort to fool God - such as you do - I'm actively living a Christian life.  Can you say the same?  Have you ever actually helped another human being, or is it all about you?  Have you really taken the Bible to heart, or are you just a street corner preacher, attempting to show a "Good Christian" facade, hoping against hope to yell your way into heaven?   I'll paraphrase an old margarine commercial for you, "you can't fool God".

So, how about it Bill - you have accused me of slurs against Christians, the Bible, God, and Jesus.  Can you show me any, or are you just going to go into street corner preacher mode again?

He can't show you any because I've never seen you make a slur against Christians, the Bible, God, & Jesus. Be interesting to see how long it will take Bill to say this has turned into a spitting contest & run away to start another topic. That's what he does when he can't show proof of his lies.

Hi Crusty,

Okay, my Friend -- I will concede.  You and Chick are the most devout Christians on the Religion Forum (please, no snickering from other members!).

But, will you please elaborate a wee bit on this statement from your last post:

Instead of spending all my time studying for an exam in an effort to fool God - such as you do - I'm actively living a Christian life.

Maybe you can elaborate a wee bit on this statement.

So, studying God's Word and being prepared to meet Him -- IS NOT important to you?   Okay!

Let me give you another Christian's view on the subject so that you cannot just say, "Oh, that is just Bill Gray's ideas."

Question:  "Why should we read the Bible / study the Bible?"

http://www.gotquestions.org/why-read-Bible.html

Answer:  We should read and study the Bible because it is God's Word to us.  The Bible is literally "God-breathed" (2 Timothy 3:16).  In other words, it is God's very words to us.

The Bible tells us how one truly gets to heaven, and it is not by being good or by being baptized or by anything else we do (John 14:6; Ephesians 2:1-10; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:10-18, 5:8, 6:23, 10:9-13).

Along this line, God's Word shows us just how much God loves us (Romans 5:6-8; John 3:16). And it is in learning this that we are drawn to love Him in return (1 John 4:19).

The Bible equips us to serve God (2 Timothy 3:17; Ephesians 6:17; Hebrews 4:12).

It helps us know how to be saved from our sin and its ultimate consequence (2 Timothy 3:15).

Meditating on God’s Word and obeying its teachings will bring success in life (Joshua 1:8; James 1:25).  God’s Word helps us see sin in our lives and helps us get rid of it (Psalm 119:9, 11).

It gives us guidance in life, making us wiser than our teachers (Psalm 32:8, 119:99; Proverbs 1:6).

The Bible keeps us from wasting years of our lives on that which does not matter and will not last (Matthew 7:24-27).

The Bible is a book that is not merely for readingIt is a book for studying so that it can be applied.  Otherwise, it is like swallowing food without chewing and then spitting it back out again -- no nutritional value is gained by it.

The Bible is God's Word.  As such, it is as binding as the laws of nature.  We can ignore it, but we do so to our own detriment, just as we would if we ignored the law of gravity.  It cannot be emphasized strongly enough just how important the Bible is to our lives.

Studying the Bible can be compared to mining for gold.  If we make little effort and merely "sift through the pebbles in a stream," we will only find a little gold dust.  But the more we make an effort to really dig into it, the more reward we will gain for our effort.

My Friend, since you tell us that you refuse to attend or join with a local Christian fellowship for worship and mutual fellowship; since you tell us that a large part of God's Written Word is contradictory and wrong; since you have trouble naming any Christian believers you accept and like -- please tell us by what criteria you declare yourself to be a Christ Follower, a Christian believer.

Please keep in mind that this is more of a "self test" so that YOU might truly know if you are ready to meet our Lord face to face; it is not to satisfy the curiosity of me nor any other Forum member.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

LOLBEEG...

All the studying an' preaching in the world matters not one iota if you're a total scumwaffle about it.

What good is it to memorize the manual if you're not gonna do *everything* it tells ya to?

Manual says "Do it this way."  Not 'your way.'

You think ya foolin' Skydaddy? Manual says Skydaddy like Santa Claus, yo.

Sees ya when yer schleppin' an' stuff.

Manual says it's not nice to try to fool Skydaddy.

Manual says Skydaddy gonna put a Bang-Shang-A-Lang(tm) onya.

Ain't nobody got time fo dat.

Hi all,

Just thought I would share with you the comment I received from a long time Christian Friend in the Midwest.  He has been a church leader, Bible study teacher, and Christian writer for many years -- publishing his own online magazine.

He responds to my Friends Ministry eNewsletter (which is the same as my initial post here):

The only people they can offend are Christians, which is why most vulgarity or exclamations are about God and Jesus.

Let them insult Muhammad, gays, or minorities the same way if they are so brave about their right to free expression.  This girl is the same type of person who will jump on the bandwagon that “Redskins”  (referring to Obama's sensitivity about the name of the Washington pro football team) is offensive -- but “OMG” is just fine…

Bill Note:  Parenthetical and italic emphasis is mine.

And, I believe that is the same or similar response any mature Christian believer will give to my writings about taking God's name in vain.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Now, come on, people! You know that God gave Billy his flair with words, told him to write'em down, that he was going to make Facebook & the TD forum for him to put them writings in, that people would admire & want to kneel before him, & people from all over the world would want to be touched by him cause God is his right hand man. We are supposed to be admiring this fool, not making fun of him.

I am always willing and eager to learn.  I have heard and read the message of the Bible from a number of very Godly people.  But, my Friend, I still want to learn more.

I sincerely want to know your thoughts on the Bible.   Crusty, my Friend, what would YOU say is the message of the Bible?

Since you raised the point, I am sure you will not mind sharing your thoughts with us.

Thank you and God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Vic, my Friend,

It is rather telling that a person who claims to be a devout Roman Catholic -- always seems to be more comfortable in the company of atheists, agnostics, and non-believers.  Hmmm,  what does that tell us about where you get YOUR beliefs?

And, please do not come up with the lame excuse, "Well, Jesus hung out with tax collectors and sinners!"   Yes, that is true!  But, He converted many of them.   How many of your atheist, agnostic, and non-believing Friends have YOU converted?

Actually, I will ask the same of you that I have of Crusty.  What do YOU think is the message of the Bible, all 66 books?  I am truly curious if you have any idea.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bible - 66 BOOKS

Bill Gray's multiple judgment scenario is contradicted by Jesus Christ Himself.  Bill believes that the "Bema Seat Judgment" is one that is provided solely for those who have been saved and is a judgment employed only to determine what level of reward shall be granted to each such already-saved person.  Bill asserts that there is another judgment that is distinctly separate from the so-called "Bema Seat Judgment."  This second judgment is called the "Great White Throne Judgment" and Bill and other premillennialists believe that this judgment is one reserved for those who died in an unsaved condition.  Hence, all those appearing at this second judgment will be there only for the purpose of being formally consigned to eternal ****ation.

Jesus taught otherwise. Jesus provided the most complete description of the judgment that is to be found anywhere in the Bible.  It is in Matthew 25.   There it is plainly shown that both the veil and the good will be present simultaneously at the judgment that Jesus describes. No one reading this description can defend the notion that there will be entirely separate judgment events for saved and unsaved persons:

MATTHEW 25, JESUS SPEAKING (emphasis mine):

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal life.

Contendah, my Friend,

You obviously have no understanding of that Matthew 25 Scripture passage.  This may help you better understand what is and will happen in prophecy:

1.  The Judgment Seat of Christ (Believers's Judgment) -- In heaven, after the Rapture.  For believers who have been raptured:  2 Corinthians 5:10.

2.  The Sheep and Goat Judgment (Tribulation Survivors Judgment) --  On earth, after His Second Coming at the end of the Tribulation.  He will judge the "Nations" -- those who have survived the Tribulation.  The Sheep, those on His right, will go into His Millennial Kingdom on earth in their mortal bodies.  The Goats, those on His left, will go into eternal punishment:   Matthew 25:31-46

3. The Great White Throne Judgment  (Non-believers Judgment) -- On earth, after the 1000 year Millennium.  Following the resurrection of all non-believers, He will judge them, a judgment of punishment:  Revelation 20:11-15.

My Friend, I am happy that I can help you better understand our Lord's plans for our future.

And, lest you or some of your "works salvation" buddies get the wrong idea when viewing the chart below -- yes, the title over the throne does indeed say, "Judgement Of Believers, For Works."

I can just see you, and all our Liberal Theology Friends, jumping up and down, cheering, salivating, etc. -- believing this is saying that one is saved by or through works.

Sorry, my Friend, no cigar.  What this says is that this is a judgment for "Believers" -- all the people who, by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ -- HAVE believed and received salvation, i.e., eternal life in Christ.

THEN, those believers, those saved saints -- WILL be judged at the "Believers" Judgment for the "works and good deeds" they have done in this mortal life, in Christ's name -- AFTER becoming believers.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Utter bunk.

You routinely make statements offensive Muslims, atheists, homosexuals, other Christian denominations, and basically everyone who doesn't believe exactly as you do.

When you're called on it, you always claim that your belief demands that you try to convert others.  But the truth is, you never try to convert anyone, you merely expect everyone to already believe as you do in their heart of hearts.

You run down beliefs that are different than yours and then expect yours to be treated better in return.

And then after you've repeatedly shown how wielding faith like a club can turn it into something vile and repulsive, you claim that a simple exclamation is what is truly offensive to God.

Aeneas, my Friend,

I will allow the Bible to answer you:

Joshua 24:15, If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites (or today's amoral society) in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

That pretty much sums up what I believe and why I do apologetic writing.  How about you?  Why do you write comments such as the one above?

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill
