Below is an interesting picture that I found on a blog posing by one of the Large Hadron Collider scientists. I found it striking in its simplicity and the message it portrays.

What it simply represents is the whole of known science. Almost everything we know about the universe (at least from a scientific standpoint) is represented here. There is a natural progression from quantum and particle theory to molecular theory to cell theory (biology) to plate tectonics theory (geology) to cosmology. It's all there.

What strikes me most is the fact that if you dismiss any one of the major components such as substituting Flat Earth theory for plate tectonics, you must also totally revise every other theory to make room for the new observation. All branches of science are interconnected thusly.

Yet here we are in the 21st century and certain groups of people still deny major components of this picture while ignoring the ramifications.
