Why the Right-Wing Is Frantic: More Minority Babies Than White Babies Now Born in America

It's white, Christian America's race against what they see as a demographic time bomb.

That is why this Associated Press (AP) headline strikes an anxious fear in so many US citizens who believe in white "American Exceptionalism": "Census Shows Whites Lose US Majority Among Babies."

White Babies Now a Minority in US

We're moving toward an acknowledgment that we're living in a different world than the 1950s, where married or two-parent heterosexual couples are now no longer the norm for a lot of kids, especially kids of color.

- Laura Speer of the Kids Count project

BuzzFlash at Truthout has commented about this trend before and why it is part of the frenetic offensive against democracy that we see taking place, including an onslaught of state efforts to restrict voting in a way that will disproportionately disenfranchise the elderly, the disabled, the poor, minorities and students.

Many BuzzFlash critics have emailed us about this subject over the years. Most often, their contention is that America is a republic not a democracy. Although this has some implications in the argument over states' rights versus the federal government, it usually is offered in the context of asserting that only certain Americans should elect the government.

"Certain Americans" in this context, we infer, means white, Christian voters with a relatively good income.

That is why the Republicans are trying to offload government programs and power into the hands of "white wealth" as quickly as possible.  Otherwise, they will face the power shift implied in the opening of the AP article:

For the first time, more than half of the children under age 2 in the U.S. are minorities, part of a sweeping race change and a growing age divide between mostly white, older Americans and fast-growing younger ethnic populations that could reshape government policies.

... Demographers say the numbers provide the clearest confirmation yet of a changing social order, one in which racial and ethnic minorities will become the U.S. majority by midcentury.

For the hardcore older, white, Christian Republican, democracy that is inclusive of all Americans must be dismantled as quickly as possible, both politically and economically.

Minorities are the receipients of most abortions.  Yet, conservatives are the msot vocal pro-life advocates.  Therefore, Propie, your premise is flawed, highly flawed.

As Ronnie stated, you're living up to your handle.

As to the debt ceiling, the annual deficits are now running about $1.5  trillion. That repesents more than the entire income of those making $250,000 and above.  There is not enough money in the US to satisfy the left's voracious appetite.

Yes, set a new debt ceiling.  Then, work on annual budgets that decrease the deficits.

Lefties state that Paul Ryan's will add to the deficts.  Yes, but not as much as the other competing ones. The main part of his suggested budget is that the national debt will be reduced about $6.2 trillion over the next decade.

We would have to cut our spending by 40% if we didn't raise the debt ceiling.  It has to be done BUT responsible politicians are trying to keep this our nation and it's programs SUSTAINABLE.  Obama can't see past 2012 and short term he wants to get back to doing what he loves - golfing.  He sucks at that too but that's neither here nor there.

I just love the assumption that if you are against a huge, bloated, inefficient, liberty crushing

leviathan and would prefer a Constitutonally limited federal government AND happen to be a caucasian that believes in Christ...you are automatically without a doubt, racist.

Only open minded, tolerant, benelovent liberals could come up with such crap.

Remember Jimi,

You are dealing with a "sick" individual in Ronnie P., he is  afflicted with Foxophelia.

While his ignorance is annoying, his arrogance in reveling in it is a manifestation of the full blown effects of this disease (reference Glenn Beck, Michele Bachmann, etc. and ALL of the teabaggers who are about to greatly damage the country's credit rating and the economy)

The DOW is now down 175 points as the teabaggers keep boiling in their own ignorance.

He and all the other thugs on this forum will slink away after 2012 when America throws out the nutbag teabaggers in Congress, if the country survives that long.

Until then, pity him and use him as an example for the:

SAVE THE FOXOPHILE RELIEF FUND

REMEMBER:  ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT FOXOPHILES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I usually just skip by your posts Jimi...but I thought I would help you out, maybe keep you from embarrassing yourself even more...

Your post shows a woeful lack of knowledge of world history...and also shows a bit of bigotry and racism itself.

You have no proof and your assertion actually goes against actual facts…you wanting it to be true that the “South” is racist, doesn’t make it so.

In fact data shows that more blacks are moving to the South, rather than away from it.  Why oh why would that be if we are all just a bunch of ignorant, racist rednecks?

Maybe because of this…the most segregated cities in the U.S.are northern, and in fact, most data shows that they are midwestern industrial cities. They certainly are not “color blind” as you assert.  Whether or not you use the 1990 census data or the 2000 data, the cities on the list remain consistent, Detroit, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Chicago, Cincinnati, etc.

Northeast andMidwestcities ranked among most segregated :

"Older cities in the nation's Midwestand Northeast have become the most racially segregated, according to a new study.

The most segregated city as of 1990 is Gary,IN, according to a report by Reynolds Farley of the University of Michiganin Ann Arbor.  Detroitis ranked as the second most segregated city, followed byChicago.

Of the most segregated metropolitan areas, 10 are old Midwestern industrial cities, according to Farley.

The least segregated tend to be in the South and West.Jacksonville,NC, is the least segregated city."

You say that nothing about race relations have changed in the last 150 years…I just might agree with you on that.  The scholar Alex de Tocqueville, who said, in Democracy in America :

“Race prejudice seems stronger in those states that have abolished slavery than in those where it still exists, and nowhere is it more intolerant than in those states where slavery was never known.”

Some things haven’t changed in the last 150+ years.

Huntsville is basically segregated, and its all voluntary.  The Huntsville City Schools are still under a federal court order to desegregate, because parents have segregated themselves, forcing the school system to alter school zoning to try and achieve some semblance of integration to satisfy the DoJ.

Voluntary segregation is not segregation at all, and needs a new term to define the behavior.

You saying racism is more prevalent does not equate the truth...just uninformed, biased opinion.

I speak from personal experience, which makes it fact, not opinion.

As to uninformed

Alabama state senator Scott Beason (R), who sponsored the state’s tough new immigration law, has been caught on tape referring to black customers of a casino as “aborigines.” Beason made the offensive comparison while wearing audio recording equipment for the FBI as part of an investigation into a group of people accused of buying and selling pro-gambling votes in the legislature.
