The only thing the Chinese have going for them is sheer numbers. In fact that is why many companies just buy their junk from China, manpower is cheap and plentiful.
I watched a television special about factories around China and their neighboring small countries / regions. Companies build entire factories for the cheap labor. The next town lowers their wage and the company moves to that town leaving their buildings behind. No worry, the region left behind lowers their wage and the company comes back. It was mainly about the textile industry. It is easy to imagine how they can hop around like this. I just don't understand why the villagers don't burn the abandoned factory. But that wasn't the point.
We can easily tip the scales any direction if we let technology leak. A Chinese man working at Avery Dennison had become a citizen of the US. Our government caught him sneaking some of Avery Dennison's secrets to a Chinese firm. They waited until the Chinese executive came to American soil to meet and they grabbed everyone. The guy at Avery Dennison sold his freedom for just a few thousand dollars (I forget the actual amount). I had met this dude when I worked at Avery. But the point is that our country is watching and we should be vigilant with our technology. I don't know much about "inventions" from China in recent years. And yet, we let them buy IBM's personal computer division.
