William Smith has lost every election so far. Hes hardly a great asset for the local republicans. Hes not "in control" of anything - he simply was appointed, in what can only be called, a consolation prise for losing his last 2 elections.

The voters made the decision NOT to give him a chance - over and over. I hated his commericals - that statement of belief in front of the church doors, while his current girlfriend held her Bible, was an insult to all of us. I am not impressed with him, his tactics, nor his qualifications. Bring us someone who can actually win.
It reads like meanasasanke has a personal issue with William. What is your history with Mr.Smith?

None of the other candidates for Lauderdale county commission has won an election either. Someone had to be appointed because Curtis left office. It is to costly to have another election just for a commission seat.

William only loss twice to Tammy Irons
and she voted herself a raise just a few day's after she was elected. What's so great about her other than she ran on the democratic ticket and that she was for giving up Veterans Park without a fight. At least William Smith was going to fight to let the citizens of Florence have a say in the Pro Bass Shop ordeal that was started by another Iorns ( Bobby Iorns).

did you mean "for " the masses. just a point of contention designed to enlighten a wonderful populus with ingrown idealogocial disfunction
Actually I like Mr. Smith personally. I used to visit with him at the P.O. downtown, and at the dock on his boat. I also know his family pretty well - nice folks. I simply dont think hes electable. I dont make a habit of hating those on the other side of my politics - not very civilized, nor American.

Actually the senate and house are in the hands of the Democrats in Alabama. The Governor is not so hostile towards the opposition as many of you would wish. He does have to work with them you know.

Thanks for the spelling correction - I made a mistake. Much as the Republican voters did when the best they could come up with in the special, and the general election was Mr. Smith.

No, I didn't. I would politely point out that "up" is the key word here.

Republicans are a RICH MAN/WOMAN's candidate. We may not have the RIGHT democrats in office, but at least they won't try to screwover the little person for the FAT CATs, Bush and Cheney have taught them all that.

KS, both the Republicans and the Democrats are the rich person's candidate. Poor people don't donate to their campaigns. The only difference is the Democrats play to the fears of the poor and minorities the way the republicans play to the fears of terrorism. There is nothing wrong with disliking a party or person because of their platforms, but disliking a party because one is for rich people and the other is for poor people is not accurate. Like I said earlier, if the Democrats only looked out for the poor people who would fund their campaigns.
After looking online at the facts about Madison Al. I can find no reasonable correlation between the Shoals area and Madison. Madison is a bedroom community of Huntsville - one of our states 3 largest cities. It has a similar tax rate but does not have the same demographics or similar average income levels as the Shoals. Madison is not Florence - Florence is not Madison. Not even a really good try from one who seems to be trying to teach we dumb ole hicks a good lesson. After all - we's stoopid, we vote fer them thar "demorats". What powers of pursuasion!

Now, back to the subject at hand. Like I said, Mr. Smith may be a great guy but he won only 30% of the vote. Instead of whinning about the stupidity of the voters in Florence, why not come up with a viable republican candidate? Does that not make more sense than continually calling the dems stupid because they WON?

Actually Tammy Irons or Mike Curtis voted themselves a pay raise....

An informed decision - to decide on your choice of elected official by those who post on a news papers discussion board. Fascinating. Perhaps a little more information would be warranted.
Well, every time you challenge Tammy's nonsense she says "you have bad information." The bad information was the lies she told in the campaign about being "independent" from the sold out interests in Monkey-Town and how she would never act different there than she does here. She gave us the "BAD INFORMATION" She blew it already. Too Bad.

Blew it in 4 months in office. Got to be some sort of record. Try nominating someone who can win - instead of crying about the one who did. He lost twice - get over it.

Actually, I voted for T.Irons based on the "information" she gave, but after what she has done so far ... I wish I had voted for W.Smith.

And yes, people don't realize how their opinions posted on a forum can affect how someone casts their vote. They don't realize and continue to do the things they do.
One of Tammy's sycophants admitted that she is a closet Republican saying she is a Bushie at heart. So Tammy and William Smith are two peas in a pod. Tammy did help Billy Jackson against Chris Connolly. The Yeller Dawgs blew it by inflicting Tammy Irons on us. She will make them regret it because she only used them to get elected. Now she, and they, are embarrassed. Watch as they say she is really a leper, I mean Republican, after all. No she is a Democrat now and everbody is stuck with her. What a mess.

Some Dem's are now saying that Tammy really is a Repub after all and just ran under their banner to get elected. They must really be down on her if they are already disowning her and calling her GULP-a REPUBLICAN. Like GEORGE BUSH & WILLIAM SMITH. Oh crap.

Actually Smith said he used to be a Democrat, but became a Republican. This is a lie. I knew him at Alabama - at 19 he was one of the "College Republicans". If he ever was a Democrat - it was before he could vote.

I suggest you look up "sycophant" and try and use it correctly. Lol......must be a Smith "sycophant" who lost - twice. Bitterness is an ugly thing.
meanasasnake, you say......."Actually Smith said he used to be a Democrat, but became a Republican. This is a lie. I knew him at Alabama - at 19 he was one of the "College Republicans". If he ever was a Democrat - it was before he could vote."

That's really interesting since Smith never went to school at Alabama. At 19 he was at UNA and then went to Cumberland Law School in Birmingham....................you might want to check your memory.

You are correct. He attended Cumberland, but was a member of the Law School Republicans - which met at Alabama, Samford, and various other campuses across the south. My bad.
