When you read this, do you feel like they are insinuating that there are no qualified employees in the Shoals only supplemental? Wording kind of ticked me off.

Team up with global Reliability Services leader ABB.

ABB is a global leader in power and automation technologies that enable our customer to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. With over 111,000 employees in 100 countries, we help our customers increase industrial productivity in a sustainable way.

One way ABBA helps increase industrial productivity is through ABB Reliability Services which helps customers maintain reliable plants and processes. By combining deep expertise with proven best practices, we more maintenance from a cost center to a strategic asset.

This is done through ABB Full Service, in which we assume responsibility for a customer's maintenance operation through a performance-based partnership, bringing together world-class maintenance methodologies, logistics management and professional reliability leadership.

ABB now has a Full Service partnership with Wish Alloys. Though we will build our team first with qualified Wise Alloys employees, we may have need for supplemental skills. We will post these opportunities in the TimesDaily in the coming weeks. We look forward to working with Wise Alloys, their employess and the surrounding communities.

They could be targeting potential customers.

The da-mn yankees that are invading the south have the impression that we are all idiots. WHY? You don't take offence to a "red neck" or a "hillbilly joke" and you allow black comedians and Hollywood to portray us as though we are idiots. What is the world supposed to think?

Until we you start raising as much hell as a minorities about being politically correct this nonsense will continue.

The history of ABB and it's parent company originated in the Swiss society AND home officed there. They have been nudging TVA since Unit 5 of Colbert Steam Plant, if not before.

They grossly over charge and their management has a history of being "much different" than we are.

Yes, they will hire from within this area, but effect will be much different than anyone can predict.

Their head honcho's can barely speak English but I guess that doesn't matter. They are a very large corporation that has eaten up all the underdogs which in my opinion is sad because the underlings just wanted to make a living for THEIR families.

No one has said one word, not even the News whether the company TMC that "leases" part of Wise is involved in this or not. Anyone here know?

I have heard that SCA is doing away with contract maintenance.

I was talking about the Unit-5, the other 4 are GE Units.

And I didn't ask if they were taking over TVA, I asked were they taking over TMC that has been leasing from Wise for about 3 years now.

Sorry for the confusion.
Actually Kindred, TVA is studying contracting out maintenance and operations. Don't know if anything will come of it. This is something they are not advertising.

The turbine on Unit 5 is a Parsons and the generator is Westinghouse. I am intimately familiar with them. You're right about 1-4 turbines and generators being GE. The boilers are built by Bab****s and Wilcox.

The distributed control system is what ABB builds for us. It's the brain of the unit that controls the turbine and the boiler as well as all the peripheral equipment.

That has been an on-going 'investigation' with TVA on a serious note for over a year now, but they already do that anyway, so it would make little difference.

I am pretty familiar with the Units at Colbert too. I remeber when U-5 rebuilt to change the polarity of it in 82 which was a good move. I also now remember Parson's. I will have to check out about the Boiler being built by Babc0ck and Wilcox though, (I am very familiar with their company)because I don't remember that happening, but I am not saying you aren't correct on it, just saying that part isn't computing in my memory this early in the morning.

ABB bought out Combustion Engineers which put a lot of people OUT of work especially in the Chattanooga area, they hired much less experience, and their work then became shoddy but they SAVED a little money. Roll Eyes

ABB does play a very heavy role in TVA already, which, in my opinion isn't a good thing. The role I can see them playing has absolutely nothing to do with the "brains" of the controls of the Turbine, which is NOT to say that they don't control that too. My MAIN concern is they are a Swiss Company and we have what we need right here in this area and in TN to do what they are "wanting" to do, but we can do it cheaper.

But it still is dealing with TVA, and what I wanted to know was if anyone knew if ABB and Wise was also including TMC in their headcount as well as gobbling them up with ABB in the drivers seat???

OMG, it finally happened. I agree with CP.

The South must show the same outrage against bigotry against it that other affronted minorities do.

OK, I except the issue of religion poisoning, with which the South is highly afflicted.

I just really wanted to know if WISE also includes TMC in their counts of employment and change for ABB.

No one has been able to answer that one yet.

Thanks Mr. Hooberbloob for the info Big Grin

TMC is not involved, only the production side of Wise. My sister has been employed at TMC since the doors opened

Exactly, you lay off and hire back the same people except for the ones they will identify as trouble makers and they lose any seniority and benefits related to it. They will probably make significantly less, have less benefits, and gets rid of vacation time stuff like that. Your basic union busting business decision. I'd hate to be driving through that picket line November 1st out there, could get ugly this time.
