Won't Get Fooled Again?
NYT, networks offer scant skepticism on Iran claims

2/2/07

The most important lesson about the Iraq War for reporters was perhaps the simplest one: Don't assume the White House is telling the truth. It's a lesson that many reporters seem to be forgetting now that U.S. officials are escalating their claims about Iran's role in Iraq.

On January 29, CBS Evening News aired a report about Iran's alleged support for Shiite militias in Iraq. Anchor Katie Couric introduced the segment by saying "the U.S. military says it has proof positive" to that effect, and Pentagon correspondent David Martin did little to undercut the official line by saying the U.S. is "already fighting a proxy war inside Iraq" with Iran. Martin went on to list the evidence: serial numbers on explosive devices that could be "traced directly back to Iran," along with rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons that "bear Iranian factory markings." The only guest on the segment was Jon Alterman of the Center for Strategic & International Studies, who essentially backed the official story.

Yep, the next time there's a dictator who's massacred an entire minority in his country, refused to let UN inspectors check for signs of his attempting to make nuclear bombs, offered aid and comfort to sworn enemies of the US, and threatened the United States directly, I'll be sure to go check it out myself first.

Or did you mean that I'm suppost to rely on left wing sources for my information?

I mean use your head other than a hat rack. you think like a right winger and you get your news from mainstream media like fox, cnn, msnbc. open both eyes dude.
The same officials who misled us into war with Iraq are now gearing up to argue for war with Iran.

Actually, PBA, I listen to the news from as many sources as I can, try to strain out the "axe to grind" slant, and make my own decision then.

If I recall correctly, when we entered the war with Iraq, neither side was debating that there was credible information that there was a great likelyhood of WMD existing....either that they were there, or that Sadaam had some of the necessary components and information to produce them, and was trying to obtain the rest of the necessary key information and hardware to produce them. And NOBODY has ever denied that he used chemical weapons warfare in the first "war in the gulf". He is suspected of killing of up to 75,000 of his own coutrymen who didn't share his outlook on the world, and was convicted, sentenced and executed for some of those crimes..

So far, nobody has presented me with any information that would convince me that Iran is a fun filled, touristy type country that just wants to be friends and plant flowers. They are a radical state that support terrorists factions, including the ones that attacked us on US soil, on 9/11/01. Their hatred for anybody that does not conform to their ways is well documented. And I'd for sure rather fight them there than here. Do I want to the US to get into a war with them???...no sane person wants war, and I surely don't. Would I be willing to support a war if necessary? Yes, do I need to bring my own guns, or can I use yours?

In conclusion, no....my head is not buried in the sand. No....I don't want a war, but YES I'm prepared to support one.

You're quoting a group so famous that they can manage a total of four members. That had one shining moment in 1986, and haven't been heard from since.

Ok, so I guess we can count you out for voluntary service??? Big Grin

I applaude you for holding to your beliefs. That is your right. But, they are not my beliefs, nor do I believe that they are the beliefs of the majority of the US citizenry.

What ever gets you through the night! Big Grin
Bush has lie about Iraq!! How do we know he is not lying about Iran? can you answer that one?
Very few Americans think attacking Iran would be either wise or justified.

What I fear is that Bush will organize a situation that makes it look like Iran is actively helping the Iraq resistance then bomb Tehran

You are way off, and really you can't help the way you think because you still think like grandpa. Someone has to think for you.
Iran is beautiful and peaceful country that is more open and free then US propaganda let's on.

The corporate media is giving the American people a warped view of the country, has since 1979 when it threw out our puppet, the Shah.

Bush and Rice continually claimed Saddam had a nuke weapons program and was going soon going to be able to attack us. The mushroom cloud scenario
