Glenn Beck ending Fox News program
by James Hibberd

Glenn Beck announced plans to “transition off” Fox News. In a joint statement, the network and Glenn Beck’s production company announced they will work together to “develop and produce a variety of television projects for air on the FOX News Channel (FNC) as well as content for other platforms.” In the meantime, Beck will “transition off his daily program.” “Glenn Beck is a powerful communicator, a creative entrepreneur and a true success by anybody’s standards,” said Roger Ailes, Chairman and CEO of Fox News. “I look forward to continuing to work with him.”
“I truly believe that America owes a lot to Roger Ailes and Fox News,” Beck said in a statement. “I cannot repay Roger for the lessons I’ve learned and will continue to learn from him and I look forward to starting this new phase of our partnership.”

Yeah, it sounds just horrible especially the part of making MORE projects for Fox.

You're caught in the Spin Zone!!! Beck was a useful idiot, but now he has gone off the rails. His radio show has been canceled in numerous markets. Maybe he and Palin can start their own shopping channel...survival products for the Armageddon.
Considering that Fox pays a pitiance compared to the rest of his fortue, he probably said screw em.

Glenn Beck, Forbes Cover Boy, Made $32 Million Last Year

by Steve Krakauer | 4:23 pm, April 8th, 2010

Publishing: $13 million
Includes profit participation with Simon & Schuster, which sold 3.5 million copies of his books, and Fusion Magazine.

Radio: $10 million
Includes five-year, $50 million participation deal with Premiere Radio Networks.

Digital: $4 million
Includes an ad-supported Web site and newsletter, plus Insider and Insider Extreme services and merchandise.

Events: $3 million
Includes tours, performances and various speaking engagements.

Television: $2 million
A three-year contract with Fox News.
The real story here is WHY Beck is being shown the door. And I think I know.
He has been doing a series of shows on uncovering conspiratorial plans to subjugate this country both financially and by law. Albeit beck was all over one side of this thing and couldn't see all of it, he did hit too close to home for the established oligarchs who ,yes, own FOX news as well as CNN, ABC ect.

What you should see in this is that the old left/right paradigm is just a show to keep people under the thumb of the oligarchs. Anyone getting too close to the truth has to be eliminated.
It also shows that there is no free expression in journalism to go after REAL stories and broadcast REAL news. The people who have been successful over time and those coming into the profession are propagandists. This includes Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh as well as those on the left.

No, your fierce partizanship is blinding you to the real story here. There is a third rail in journalism, and Beck stepped too close to it. That should concern us all. When a journalist cannot be a journalist, then how can we trust anything we are told?

You are probably right about that. Beck dug into stories that others didn't touch for fear of losing their jobs. He got so much money now he doesn't care. For all the bashing, he single-handedly took down Anita Dunn, Van Jones, and started the Tea Party. Not bad for a reformed drunk.

Gee 73 how soon you forget.

Talk about network partizanship. How can we all forget the partizanship of ABC, NBC, CBS and MSNBC?
You my friend are wearing horse blinders seeing just what you want to see. How in the world can
you or anyone forget the famous MSNBC's Chris Matthews broadcast as he listened Obama's speech
in 2008. He said in his excitement,"I feel a thrill going up my leg." Red Face

Great post.
I'm trying to figure out how the guy is going to move on to bigger and better things when he's lost 1/3 of HIS audience - the hardcore, devout, automatons - in the last year. HIS audience is tired of him, so how and where will he pick up a bigger one?

http://articles.cnn.com/2011-0...tworks?_s=PM:OPINION

Are Glenn Beck's biggest days behind him?

By David Bianculli

quote:
irst Keith Olbermann, now Glenn Beck: two highly vocal, aggressively opinionated TV commentators suddenly walk away from weeknight cable TV platforms. The question most often asked when such news hits -- as it did Wednesday, with the announcement of Beck's planned departure from Fox News Channel later this year -- is "Why?"

The better question, I suspect, is "What next?"

The "why," in both cases, is easy to surmise. Glenn Beck on Fox News (like Olbermann, before he and MSNBC put an instant end to "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" in January) is a media lightning rod. If lightning rods aren't grounded properly, they hurt more than they help -- and with the polarized and polarizing programs of both Beck and Olbermann, they were largely speaking to the converted.

This is a negative only if there aren't enough converted tuning in. In "All the President's Men," Deep Throat's advice was to "Follow the money." In TV, the best advice is to "Follow the ratings." If they're high enough, networks will forgive or overlook almost anything. When they dip, as Beck's have recently -- losing almost 1 million viewers in one year, when total viewership at his peak was less than 3 million -- networks can afford to make decisions based on other factors....

Beck and Fox, in a joint statement, said Beck would continue to develop projects for both the network and its online properties. That sounds like a much looser arrangement than the one between Olbermann and Al Gore's Current TV, where Olbermann plans to resurface later this year as both TV host and behind-the-scenes "news officer."

As pulpits go, both of these will be trickier for viewers to find -- Beck's, because his specials will be scheduled irregularly, and Olbermann's, because, well, it's on Current TV. You can count on both Beck and Olbermann to continue to rail against windmills and rant against adversaries. But if audiences don't follow or listen, did they ever really rant at all?
An article from a few weeks ago about the advertisers Beck has lost:

http://www.dailyfinance.com/st...-beck-show/19886510/

Will a Lack of A-List Advertisers Kill the 'Glenn Beck' Show?

By Aimee Picchi

quote:
Big Advertisers Aren't Backing Beck

Back when Beck's show was skyrocketing in the ratings, his anemic list of advertisers didn't worry Fox News. But the "Glenn Beck" advertisers -- or lack of of them -- are becoming more of an issue as the show hemorrhages viewers. TiVo has provided data to DailyFinance that illustrates the big divide between Beck's advertisers and those backing CNN's "The Situation Room" and MSNBC's "Hardball with Chris Matthews."

During the last week of February, Beck's show attracted 39 advertisers, ranging from his major sponsor, Goldline.com, which has come under fire for its marketing and sales practices, to decidedly B-list advertisers such as SeniorPeopleMeet.com, a dating site for seniors.

Advertisers for Beck's more liberal rivals on CNN and MSBNC are both more plentiful and better pedigreed, despite the programs' considerably smaller audiences. "The Situation Room" on CNN booked ads from more than 100 advertisers during the last week in February, while "Hardball" attracted 58 advertisers during the same period, according to Tivo. And the shows attract ads from some of the biggest U.S. consumer brands, including Procter & Gamble and Microsoft.

Targeting the Senior Set

All three shows tend to attract an older audience, with their average viewing age hovering in the mid-60s. But not all senior-targeted advertisers are created equal. Beck's program draws ads such as cosmetic surgery practice Lifestyle Lift, while CNN's "Situation Room" has attracted a list of advertisers including Mercerdes Benz 's E-class of luxury cars and Procter & Gamble's (PG) over-the-counter Prilosec heart-burn medication.
