I would like to give the next contest a try. I
have entered a couple of short story contest in a magazine that used to have contest. I didn't win but I got an honorable mention once. That was encouraging for an amateur like me. lol

Novelwriter if you really are a real author I wish you would give me some pointers. I wrote a story about fire but chickened out and did not submit it. If I send it to you in a pm will you tell me what you think?

if you like to write, thats all that matters. good and bad are opinion. remember that many great books were turned down by publishers before they became hits.
I would be honored to share my story with either one of them if they are willing. I would expect them to keep my work confidential. It is not as good as the stories I have seen here. I would like some help in the form of constructive criticism getting to the point where I would feel comfortable sharing with the other forum writers. I am a little too tenderhearted for the bloodbath that would follow if some of you had the opportunity to see what I write.

I doubt there would be a bloodbath.Just a lot of encouragement. And I believe Deep and Joy would make it confidential for you. They are a couple of honest strait shooters.

the only bloodbath i see is for someone plagiarizing the work of another.
most here are VERY supportive. i also happen to know there are SEVERAL published authors on this forum. any one would be willing to help and any way they could. writing is an art. some have a natural talent! do what you like! that's what should matter most!

Whoever wrote that story,
is a plagiarizing fool!

local autor's book excerpt

Aww, but Fred, by now, surely everyone has considered the obvious. Chances are equally as great that the same person that penned the link you posted is also the author of 'As The Fire Raged.' Could it be that after the much ado about the entry, it's subsequent failure to place in the contest, perhaps the author is embarassed?
Embrassment is a natural emotion although there is really no need. As the old saying goes, 'you can't win 'em all'. Wink
Besides, the winners were extremely deserving and that entry was also very good.

Fred G. thinks you should read a thread before making a comment. I saw where the autor in question sent word she DID NOT write the entry.

Maybe Fred G. is a friend of the autor in question and is POSITIVE she didn't write the entry.
as the old saying goes "look before you leap!" Wink
It would be easy to write a GREAT story from a GREAT book. It's much harder to create you OWN story! The thief got what they deserved! Wink Big Grin

It's a shame that an author can't write a decent short story from her own book. Maybe the book wasn't so hot either Roll Eyes yeah, I would guess embarrassment, as well.

Nah, that's just earthmomma, the grammar police. You just have to learn to ignore her.

if you throw a rock at a pack of dogs, the one that yells is the one that got hit! Wink

Don't start yipping and barking yourself, Bumble, I'm just making an observation, nothing more.
i rather doubt a nationally published author, one who actually has a PUBLISHER and an established following, cares little what your opinion is and less about your assessment of her work.

did you know some writers don't have to self publish? did you know some folks actually get PAID for their work? ever heard of a royalty check? since i'm sure you have not experienced these things, the answer is yes, good writers do enjoy these benefits.

strive to acheive these goals, not that you have a snowball's chance, fanatakitty.

oh, and get a good spell checker... and a really good, patient and understanding editor. it would help if she's already bald. it will save the time and pain of snatching it out in frustrated handfuls.

If you cant stand the heat, get outta the kitchen. Meaning, sometimes words are expressed in such ways as to upset the people who carry their hearts on their sleeves. You gotta be thick skinned to hang here. Whining dosent help either. But i'm guessing you already know all of this.
The questionable entry to the competition had attached to it a security code.

Only the writer, Joy, and I know what that code is.

I invite the writer to announce him/herself to Joy and me, with a recounting of the security code, and the common TD Forum screen name by which he/she is known.

All the other writers have announced themselves.

Writer of prose entry #4. PM me with your TD Forum screen name and security number, please. Just like ALL the other contributors did.

If you do not, there are certain assumptions to which we are entitled, given the nature and content of your contribution.

But do not let us indulge in those assumptions. Announce yourself to me.

Dill, I suspected something like this, and asked for the codes.

It might not solve everything, but I find it interesting that I have not heard from the author of Prose entry #4.

It took no feat of Socratic intelligence to figure that entry was mocking a specific person. It was a known genre, but the entry was less than professionally written. Not badly written, but not professionally.

I find such attempts to denigrate success pitiable. It's almost as if one cannot succeed, it's sufficient to try to erode the success of another. This is intellectual vandalism, and just as profitable as any other sort of that sordid trade.
