Uri Avnery is a Jewish writer who started Gus Shalom which is one of the main Israel peace groups. You can checkout their site and see all their "militant" plans for the destruction of Israel. They are peace activists that act as witnesses that write and demonstrate against Israeli crimes and aggression.
They have always been "nonviolent" and believe in the two state solution, which means Israel must withdraw from the land it stole in it's 1967 invasion, land legally recognized as Palestinian and Syrian, end it's claim to all of Palestine and biblical borders and let it's neighbors live in peace.
If you bother to read the article you see that he is pointing out Israelis "lust for war" and questioning why it is needed. He also points out Bush's lust for war and his claim that he "personally talks to God" about his actions.
When Avnery says "he was a terrorist" he is referring to his time in the Israeli defense forces in the 1948 War where Zionist terrorist groups murdered Palestinian civilians, men, women and children as took land outside the partition and ethnically cleansed it to create a Jewish majority in the now State of Israel. A time he now looks back on in regret. A time that many Zionists still try to deny happened.
Zionist terrorist groups got their start in the 1920's and carried out terrorist attacks against Palestinian civilians who were the majority of the population and British troops that were occupying the land since Britain took the region in WW1.
Zionist groups were well known world wide for their terrorist acts.
