Yep, those darn Anderson's, they promised everybody in the Shoals a well-paying job and then reneged. And then, to boot, they make you stay here, work it anyway, and like it! Pleeeze! If you have a job in this environment, you'd better be thankful.

What????? The Anderson brothers never promised anyone anything as far as a fair wage with benefits for the job you work! At least in that respect you can't call them hypocrites. I guess the statement you are trying to make is if during this current economic downturn, a person with a job needs to do everything in their power to keep the employer happy no matter what and take it and like it! Do you work for Whitesell or for one of the Anderson shell companies? But wait, during the boom years of the ninetys, the Anderson brothers started to build on their fathers small business and through some business acumen (I use that term very loosely) took advantage of the Shoals area decline in employment due to NAFTA and the closing of plants like TeeJays to create a much lower pay scale than if they had paid similar wages as other plants of the warehousing and small manufacturing types in the country. They even got tax breaks from the city, county and STATE! And it is STILL going strong!

Are you guys kidding me? You think a warehouse job, working in a bookstore, or selling fireworks is supposed to be a high paying job? Seems like the wages they are paying are more than fair for the type of work being done.
Rocky,
Your response sounds like someone who expects "the union" to guarantee you a good job regardless of the competition. Look, it "ain't gonna happen". Like it or not, you are competing with workers from China, Viet Nam, Cambodia, etc., etc. Do I work for the Anderson's or Whitesell? No. Do I think they used all of the tools at their disposal to strengthen their company? Of course! NAFTA, whether we like it or not, is a fact and the damage is done. If you like going to Wal-Mart and buying Fruit of The Loom underwear cheaply, then you contributed to it's success. The only reversal in that job loss will come when the typical, American worker decides it is better to have a (lower-paying)job than to have no job. This mindset goes back, at least, to the first President Bush talking about a "Global Economy", and Ross Perot talking about a "giant sucking sound". The wild card in this equation is the cost of transportation. When it costs more to make it "over there" and ship it "over here" than it does to make it here to start with, things will change. I'm not holding my breath.
I would suggest any reader of this post, whom wants to be accurately informed of current events, carefully research previous "information" provided by the original poster, and the history of the proven inaccuracy of such posts. I would also point to the manner in which these posts are delivered, which has become "lore". There is no use in attempting to provide the original poster with accurate details.
Thank You.
Cage, your little campaign is not going to work. In case anyone on the news side happens to drift over to the politics forum, Cage is a rabid republican/tea partier who was caught up in several lies and twisting information by me and a few other posters who don't goose step to Glenn Beck. When he realized he had been caught instead of acknowledging it he did everything in his power to add lies on top of lies. Now he is on a campaign to make sure he and the other of his ilk, will have the forum all to themselves. He has directed this campaign at me because I was relentless in NOT letting him post half truths and outright lies. As Paul Harvey said (before he died) THAT IS THE REST OF THE STORY. I believe in proof, go over to the politics side and read the posts for yourself.

Let's see, a person content to work in a bookstore and not better himself or herself through hard work or more education would have some kind of pathology going on? Who woulda thunk it? (You owe me a keyboard, Fred.)
