THE HIGH GAS PRICES, THE JOBS GOING TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES, YOU BUY IT DON'T YOU. YOU KEEP ELECTING THOSE WHO DON'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT WHAT YOU SAY. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU SAY, IT'S NOT GOING TO CHANGE. YOU HAVE SOLD INTO IT, LOOK AROUND AND SEE HOW MANY FOREIGN PRODUCTS YOU OWN, HOW MANY OF THEM ARE MADE IN AMERICA? SAY WHAT YOU MAY IT'S NOT GOING TO CHANGE... BECAUSE THAT IS THE WAY YOU LIKE IT...

While this is true for some things a vast majority of American made products are far better. Go buy some Chinese made tools and see how they stand up to old craftsman, mac or snap-on tools. I have a car lift in my garage and there is no way I would have one made in china. Also, do your new appliances really last as long as the ones of past? I have had 3 consecutive Chevy trucks or suburbans that have gone over 170k miles and no problems. We as Americans have to come to believe that things should wear out and be non-fixable so they have to be replaced but they sure were cheap!

The Chinese are capable of making products to the same standards as any American company, but it depends on who is paying the contract.

GM has made every 3.4 V6 engine in China since about 2004. The entire process from forging the components to the machining to the mold of all the plastic parts, including making all the sensors is done in China. The complete engines are shipped in containers to the assembly plants in Canada or Mexico.

BFred you hit it right on the nose. Without competivness in America
we are doomed. I would buy American but, some things they don't even make
in the US any more. And even if they did I couldn't afford it.

As usual wrong! Only some of the engines are made in china.

That's exactly correct, most products that were made in China were built to specs provided by American companies. If you send in drawings, models, and specs for high quality products then the Chinese companies will provide a superb product at a fraction of the cost to produce anything comparable in the USA. If you send in specs for a bunch of junk then they will be happy to provide that too.
@HIFLYER, I assume you are talking about stuff like the Harbor Freight tools and yea they are mostly junk. As for Hand tools (power tools excluded) I can agree that Craftsman, Snap-On, Kobalt and a few others are far superior than most and I am not certain where all of those are made. As for power tools, the better ones are not made in the USA.

I suppose, then, we won't be "competitive" until we are willing to work 10 hours a day for a grand total of $4 like the Chinese. That would buy a bowl of rice and low-rent pallet on the floor.

What products do you consider to be high quality that are not made in China?

That's more like $9 for a 12 hour day. 10 hour days are for the lazy.

For $9 you get vegetables with your rice and a blanket and pillow for your pallet.

Well I own several American made cars that have been very good and my last 3 have gone well past 150k mile and no problems.
