did you know that if you will plant Marigolds around in your Garden that they will keep a lot of different kind of Bugs away, and I have heard that Deer don't like their smell, and I know that this works, we have Blue Berries, Grapes, Muscadines, apples, pears and Plums and we have two Owls sitting on posts, no trouble from Squirrels or Birds, you have to move the Owls around sometimes, if you leave them in the same place all time then the Pests will figure it out, we live in town and you know there are always Squirrels around.

A few others that also help:

Plant tansy to repel ants, borers, beetles, cutworms, and squash bugs in your vegetable and fruit gardens.

Cultivate garlic to drive away aphids, borers, beetles and mites.

Select plantings of marigolds to combat an invasion of beetles, nematodes, tomato hornworms and whiteflies.

Choose mint and spearmint plants to eliminate ants, cabbage moths and flea beetles.

Include nasturtiums in your garden to prevent damage by aphids, Colorado potato beetles, squash bugs, and whiteflies.
I have heard about the Marigolds too. I have some planted between my Tomatoes this year. They make the garden look pretty. But the bug control part is iffy at best.
I have tried to go a little more green, and have tried various things over the years, one thing that helps with some bugs is a mild Ivory soap and water mix sprayed on your plants.
Sunday, I had enough and went back to chemicals, as the bugs started eating everything. There is no substitute for 5% Sevin dust for bugs.
As for Deer I have my barber save me a bag of human hair, and put a line of it all around the garden. I have also used Blood meal (can be bought at most garden centers)
and is highly effective against rabbits and deer. Blood meal is 13% nitrogen and is a excellent fertilizer also.
