You're right. Embezzling is usually more profitable than petty theft. Why didn't they think of that?

When is the last time you worked at McDonald's? I hear they allow you a free meal when you work a shift.

It ain't gonna work Ms. JSWB. Wink
There was another report of hair straightener stolen from a business in MS.

If I was missing a bottle of hair straightener I would assume I misplaced it...

I have to wonder about some of the people that call the police to report such insignificant items.

I've also noticed other such reports from "a business" in MS in the past...

I've wondered if it's always the same "business" or the same person making those reports.

What do they do? Get reimbursed for a bottle of hair straightener (example) from their insurance company?

Never worked there. You?

You said they could have "copped" some, a slang term that's generally defined as meaning to steal or to purchase in an illicit manner.

"R" word?

Whats THAT have to do with anything?

I was talking about an insignificant "item"...

It could have been a golf ball...I'd used that instead.

You shouldn't assume so much.

It makes a person look like a DA for a miserable existence.

Yeah I did work there when I was a teenager. About 30 years ago.

As far "copped" generally being related to stealing or purchasing in an illegal manner, I may not be as hip as you on that terminology since I don't participate in those activities. I like the word so I use it loosely. Wink

Too bad words don't mean what you want them to, isn't it? I don't know how hip that terminology is when you consider that it originated around the turn of the 18th century. Try using a dictionary when you don't know the correct usage of a word. Dictionaries are hip. All the cool kids use them! Here's one online in case you don't have your own at home. Link

According to dictionary.com, it also means to grab, gain or win. So, If you work at McD's and "cop" a burger, it means you grabbed or gained a burger as much as it means you stole one. I love it when a know-it-all comes off looking like a dunce.

Can't you click a simple link? If you can, look for the primary definition.

cop1  /kɒp/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [kop] Show IPA
–verb (used with object), copped, cop⋅ping. Informal. 1. to catch; nab.
2. to steal; filch.
3. to buy (narcotics).

I won't stoop to your level of name calling.

Two reasons other small thefts are reported:

1. They are part of a larger problem and the business/individual wants the police to get the situation in hand.

2. The thief is known and the name was given in the police report.
