I love Peach Nehi but it weren't me.
I believe they'll find they would've come out just a little cheaper if they had went to McDonald's and worked that day and maybe copped a few fries and maybe a cheeseburger. It is sad people are having to steal food though. Lord have mercy.

You're right. Embezzling is usually more profitable than petty theft. Why didn't they think of that?
Maybe they traded them for the hair straightener...

When is the last time you worked at McDonald's? I hear they allow you a free meal when you work a shift.
It ain't gonna work Ms. JSWB.

what does that mean?
There was another report of hair straightener stolen from a business in MS.
If I was missing a bottle of hair straightener I would assume I misplaced it...
I have to wonder about some of the people that call the police to report such insignificant items.
I've also noticed other such reports from "a business" in MS in the past...
I've wondered if it's always the same "business" or the same person making those reports.
What do they do? Get reimbursed for a bottle of hair straightener (example) from their insurance company?

Never worked there. You?
You said they could have "copped" some, a slang term that's generally defined as meaning to steal or to purchase in an illicit manner.

Thought it was better than using the "R" word, I'll take my chances, but thanks for the concern DA

"R" word?
Whats THAT have to do with anything?
I was talking about an insignificant "item"...
It could have been a golf ball...I'd used that instead.
You shouldn't assume so much.
It makes
I just discovered that an RC Cola and Moon Pie are missing from my kitchen. I plan to file a report first thing tomorrow morning.

What flavor moonpie? I smelled banana moonpie on a certain person's breath yesterday.I might be able to help you get to the bottom of this
If it was a Faygo or Sun Drop and a GooGoo Cluster then you could blame me!!!
Peach Nehi, YUM! I don't even think I've seen one of those in a month of Sundays!
Like other posters, I would like to know the reasoning behind reporting such trivial things to the police. My coworkers frequentlysteal...uh... borrow my colored flare pens off my desk... should I notify security?

Yeah I did work there when I was a teenager. About 30 years ago.
As far "copped" generally being related to stealing or purchasing in an illegal manner, I may not be as hip as you on that terminology since I don't participate in those activities. I like the word so I use it loosely.
jules, I have a scar on my left arm from the fry basket when I was part of the French Frying Legion back in the Ice Age. IMO, you're nobody in this world until you've done your time at Mickey D's!
Not read all the posts on this thread, but that address is Wal-Mart in Muscle Shoals and that's why it was reported.
a corndog?
I didn't know they sold individual corndogs there...

they sell them individually in the deli.

I worked at the one on Woodward Ave. before the ice age, and actually enjoyed it.

Too bad words don't mean what you want them to, isn't it? I don't know how hip that terminology is when you consider that it originated around the turn of the 18th century. Try using a dictionary when you don't know the correct usage of a word. Dictionaries are hip. All the cool kids use them! Here's one online in case you don't have your own at home. Link

According to dictionary.com, it also means to grab, gain or win. So, If you work at McD's and "cop" a burger, it means you grabbed or gained a burger as much as it means you stole one. I love it when a know-it-all comes off looking like a dunce.

Can't you click a simple link? If you can, look for the primary definition.
cop1 /kɒp/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [kop] Show IPA
–verb (used with object), copped, cop⋅ping. Informal. 1. to catch; nab.
2. to steal; filch.
3. to buy (narcotics).
I won't stoop to your level of name calling.
Oh, so only the PRIMARY definition counts, eh? You'd better call Miriam Webster. It could save a lot of time and effort for them if they stop including ALL the definitions of a word.
Is she not smart enough to speak for herself?
You can reach and stretch as far as you want, but when's the last time you said "I copped a burger at McDonald's" when you were talking about buying one?

Who? I just can't stand a know-it-all. Especially a know-it-all newbie who attacks others for no reason other than to correct grammar or point out errors in usage of words. It's a real sore spot for many of us, so here's your heads up.
I made a comment on her post. Free speech, hon. You don't like it, don't read it. Or deal with it. You can even treat her like she isn't smart enough to defend herself.
She's not here. I am. YOU deal with it.
Then too bad you couldn't help her out.
No? I proved her definition was just as acceptable as yours! Thank you and goodnight!
You did your best to scrape up a half-ass definition and all you proved is that you couldn't help her out of the hole she dug herself in to.

Two reasons other small thefts are reported:
1. They are part of a larger problem and the business/individual wants the police to get the situation in hand.
2. The thief is known and the name was given in the police report.
