Um. I still have my 12" bamboo, K&E slide rule from college. It's in a leather sheath, with a belt loop.

And I still know how to use it.

Somewhere around here i have a round slide rule that was my Dad's. It fits in a shirt pocket and the case looks like a pocket protector. He was one of those mathematical genius types and a drafting engineer when it was heads and hands...no computers.

Or Pope's Tavern ... in costume. Wink

It was Rippavilla Plantation in Spring Hill, Tennessee, if you will go back to my site and look yet again. I portray Susan Cheairs yearly at their candlelight tour. Pope's is not nearly so grand.

i bet a lot of nerds wish they could be nerds like you, bc! Smiler

Thanks, HG!! I forgot to add that I can quote most Monty Python movies.
This is one of my other favorite quotes:

King Arthur: I am your king.

Woman: Well I didn't vote for you.

King Arthur: You don't vote for kings.

Woman: Well how'd you become king then?

[Angelic music plays... ]
King Arthur: The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. THAT is why I am your king.

Dennis: [interrupting] Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
Oh well, at least I am in good company! Big Grin

I thought I was the only one that loved this old movie! Many, many moons ago I can remember lots of nights watching that movie with a few good friends and a case of Foster's (do they still even make that stuff in the blue bottle with the little kangaroo on top?). I have to admit that it did seem to get funnier as it progessed. It became sort of a college tradition.

I could probably still sing you the "Knights of the Round Table" song...but I won't. Wink

Blackacre,

I've never had a Foster's. But I can tell you with a good deal of certainty that "This is Spinal Tap" is pretty fun to watch while enjoying a Heineken or two. Smiler

I loved "This is Spinal Tap"!!!

Foster's was an Australian lager that you could buy in a quart “oil can” looking container. I later learned how much better draft beer was, but at the time (late 1980s/early 1990s) it was excellent. My hair started to get peppery early in college (UNA) so I was never carded. I think what made the whole thing so cool was that by the middle of the movie EVERYONE knew the lines and was singing along. Kind of like the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” (only without the drag queens running up and down the aisles!). Wink

It seemed like there was always something to do, either with friends (like the Monty Python thing) or ...larger, louder events. Where are Pat and Paul when you need them? (And if that phrase means anything to anybody...I won’t tell if you won’t!)

If you ever see one, give it a try. If you like Heineken, you would probably enjoy it.

You made me laugh out loud!
I had to look that one up...

Noun
Brit, Austral & NZ informal a despicable or irritating person or thing

I believe that is pretty much spot on...at least in my case Wink When I start singing "Knights of the Round Table" you'll believe me! Big Grin
