One conservative blog has the motto, "In every liberal, there's a tyrant shouting to be released." However, its not that simple -- some desire to emulate the old Marquis, a few prefer von Sacher-Masoch.

Good Lord! hahahahaha You have a very rich imagination there Dire. I had no idea that I have been trying to emulate "the Old Marquis" or "Von Sacher-Masoch"
The crazy rantings I see some of you make on here about the evil "progressives" can sometimes make me laugh. Other times I get a little sick in my stomach that you all have labeled many of us as these evil people that are trying to take over YOUR country. We have seen this kind of mentality before. It didn't turn out to good for the progressives... I hope you all can stop trying to dehumanize those that disagree with you politically and try and find a way to work together, find some common ground, and compromise.
I would have loved to have sent my children to a private school. Not because I think I am better than anyone else, or that no one else deserved to send their children to a private school. I think many offer a better education based mostly on class size and the caliber of teachers that private schools can attract with the better pay they offer.
I also know that there are many public schools that offer quality educations.
The most important thing to your child's education is your involvement.

When we moved to Alabama in 1980, we entered our two children in a private school, where they remained for three years.
Our kids were at the very top of their respective classes from the very beginning, both of them even later being named (in their subsequent private school settings) as 8th grade "valedictorians" (a silly business at that level, in my opinion) .
They had previously been in the very fine public schools of Fairfax County, Virginia. When they came home from the first day of school here, they reported that the material being taught was stuff they had learned already in their prior school setting. Both English and math were being taught at a level about one year behind the public schools in Virginia.
The private school they attended was considered elite in this area--decidedly better than the public schools. And it is very likely that it was better than the local public schools, but it was definitely not providing as high a level of education as the public schools in Virginia.
So the differences are not always the simplistic "private vs. public" version that we hear from the anti-public schools crowd. There ARE very good public schools. It is a shame that there are some pretty sorry ones also.
