OK Here we go, Take some time here and read it,be opened minded, and say what you think of it.Why is it so easier to believe a lie more than the truth? Is it because the media tell's us what we want to hear?
Let us examine the nature of the “news? that is reported today by the major cable news networks, CNN, MSNBC and FOX. Keep in mind that tens of millions of Americans rely on these sources for their information about the nation and the world:

These networks provide:

News stories presented as mysteries; with tantalizing questions and innuendo (that leave false impressions) preceding the story.
Selective elements of news events while omitting pertinent facts
Unsubstantiated stories reported as fact
Edited, truncated or completely out of context quotes that create false impressions
Minimal access to a wide variety of important news stories that might reflect poorly on the administration
Leading questions, insinuation, assumptions, opinions and so-called expert validate inaccurate or truncated reports to the public.
Distractions in the form of extended local and non vital news stories in lieu of the thousands of important stories that go unreported
American flags and other patriotic symbols to suggest that alternative views about the stories they report are ‘un-American? in contrast
Talk shows that often are presented as “news,? in which people with little “show biz? ability, are overwhelmed by the network host as they try to present alternative views.
Dramatic entertainment; replete with original music, drumbeats, emotionally charged intros, and Shakespearean presentations
Open, unchallenged platforms and photo ops for the administration to promote its policies and misinformation.
This web site exposes the indications and techniques of deception used by the broadcast media.

Lies come in many forms. Partial truths, selective facts, out of context quotes and information, partial historical perspective and out right misrepresentation of facts. It is easy to manipulate the public. If you become aware of the methods of deception you are better prepared to sift through the propaganda for the few facts that are actually made available by our broadcast our news media. Learn their tricks, stay on your toes and become a better informed (responsible) citizen.

People in the Shoals need to wake up to their local media. For instance, you have one corporation that owns the majority of the radio stations in our local community. WLAY, owned by Urban Broadcasting Corporation I believe, who owns WVNA. They just bought out WJOR, STAR 94, and others. You have a few stations left, like WQLT, WBTG, WZZA, and if I've left out any more, you can feel free to add. Now, if I was WZZA, I think I would be raising cane that I did not receive license for an FM. But then again, the owner of WZZA may not have applied, which was a very big mistake on their part. Now, who listens to AM anymore, other than to get talk shows, like Rush Limbaugh, etc. All your talk shows in the south are conservative. No such thing as liberal, democrat, moderate verses conservative. So we get all the conservative views. Now, let me straighten this out right now before you accuse me of being a liberal, which I don't mind you accusing me of being a liberal because liberal was made to be a bad name by man. Liberal is in the Bible and it says a man who is not liberal is without wisdom. No where in the Bible does it mention conservative, or at least I haven't found it. Everybody talks about liberal media but I just do not see it here in the south. The conservatives have a tendency to call things liberal when they disagree. Anyway, back to the media. You have the Courier Journal, very conservative, owned by Bob Love, I believe, who owns all the Foodlands. Then you have the TimesDaily, owned by the New York Times, as well as Channel 19. But I have to defend TimesDaily, although it has been labeled liberal many times. I have to disagree. TimesDaily, to me, has been more fair and balanced than any news media in this area. WQLT has quit airing local news. They use to air local news but no longer. How about investigating news? Channel 48, WAFF, is not owned by a corporation like Channel 19 and Channel 31. Channel 48 offers investigative news but no other news media in the area offers it unless they've added it recently. We depend on the news media to be the watchdog and a majority believes everything they hear and read and refuses to do the research to check it out for themselves. You have the greatest tool in your home if the government doesn't take it away from us and that's the internet. And if we allow the government to do it as Neut Gingrige has planted the seed in the governments mind that we need to do something about the internet. Keep believing the propaganda if you wish. Stay brainwashed. But the price to pay will be high. Do your own research and be a truth seeker.
PBA, one point you are wrong on is the ownership of WAFF Channel 48 in Huntsville. Believe it or not, it is owned by the Retirement Systems of Alabama under one of their subsidiary Raycom Media. Have you noticed all the RTJ commercials? That is why. Other than that, a very informative post. Thank you, THE DOG
One other point, in an earlier post I pointed out that Big River Broadcasting owns 3 I know of stations in the Shoals area. This is the Sam Phillips family. Two are FM, one light rock, WQLT and one Country Kix 96, yet they designated the Soul station, Can't even remember the call name (only Magic 1340) to AM. This seems VERY racist to me and I tried in vain to point this out in earlier posts during all the "Sam Phillips" celebration week but I think it went over most posters head. THE DOG

Good point. That's what you call speaking about a subject one knows nothing about Mott. :-/ Takes a lot more than flipping a switch to get a station moved. Anyway, it's not like they aren't an EEO.

I think none of you get it, The big river broad casting is not a big deal they own a 1,000 watt am magic 1340 and its their to go up against wzza then WQLT a 100,000 watt fm who at onetime time kicked butt in the early 80's but no longer. opps, get bact to what i was saying,Small media against wlay am&fm,wvna am and fm,star-94, wjor, and trying to buy wbtg. All this media belongs to one company and it use to be against the law for one company to own this much media in one town.If this keeps up,then one day it might be we are force to listen only what the Goverment wants us to listen too. Do you get it now?
You're right, and you can thank Clinton's deregulating Telecommunications Act of '96 for that. As for the "soul" station, it's been on AM since it's beginning. It has nothing to do with racism.

It costs a fortune not only to change equipment, get a new frequency, jump through legal hoops with the FCC to change the license, and then plenty of billboards, tv, and newspaper ads to inform listeners of the change. Are the ratings to a point to where the owners can recoup that investment? I doubt it.

WSM is also an AM station playing music, are the owners racist for not moving that station to FM?
Well let me address it this way, when I moved back here from B'ham 10 years ago, I called the manager of WQLT to ask if there was any possibility of Magic 1340 ever going FM. I was pointedly told that the station owner would not even consider it since there was no perceived demand for "that kind" of music in the Shoals. I asked what he meant by "that kind" and was hung up on. I like ALL types of music, and of course in Birmingham there are all kinds all over the FM dial. I just missed the "old school" soul from FM 108 and still do. So, I still believe there is some underlying reason that black music in this area stays on AM and I think it is very hypocritical of the Phillips family to speak out of both sides of their respective mouths, on the one hand claiming Sam Phillips the Father of Rock and Roll (what a joke) and on the other keeping old school soul "in it's place" THE DOG GROWLS!
That's exactly my point. The station owner thinks that ratings would be too low and advertisers wouldn't be interested in an FM soul station. Therefore, no demand for that kind of music. It's a huge cost and ordeal to change frequencies like that. If the station owner doesn't think he can make his money back then he won't move it.

If enough people and business owners contacted him and showed that there is a demand for an FM soul station, then he might take the risk. I still don't think racism is the reason, but a nice profit cures racism pretty quickly.

Wqlt has a fm and you can't change a am to fm

Since when? WVNA has the same call letters on both AM and FM. Different formats, same owner. It's not so much changing from one to another, it's basically creating a new station under the same call letters on FM and doing away with the AM. As I said before, it means buying new equipment, marketing, etc.
